You're feeding them so they'll stick around, especially since it's winter - mourning doves usually migrate for the winter, but if there's food available (i.e. bird feeders) they'll tough it out much further north than normal. Also a popular game bird, they're super common and I can attest from personal experience that they can taste pretty good.

But yea, healthy dogs usually don't stink. How does 'rolled in something at the dog park' factor into your calculus.

My parents had 11 rescues at one point, although that was 10 years ago so theyre down to 4 or 5 now. People who came over would be shocked that the house didnt smell at all. We had 3 boxes that were all cleaned 3 times a day. Not just scooped, but actually cleaned. My step father was/is OCD (in a good way?) about all things cleanliness. On top of that his cats were trained. The cats spent most of the daytime outside until my step father did his 5:30pm dinner yodel. Each one was fed specific portions of specifc food at the exact same times every day. They each had their own bowl and would line up accordingly. He's the only man, nay person, I know with an actual subscription to Cat Fancy magazine.
