Also he's an ultimately selfish person despite all his helpfulness, who hides his problems from others not only to his own expensive but at the expense of the people around him. His helpfulness is mostly a way for him to alleviate his own guilt about that - while he cares sincerely about the people around him, he has difficulties fully trusting them, despite all his speeches about friendship and teamwork, and so he's something of a hypocrite. His difficulties telling people no aren't just 'being too nice,' but a legitimate pathological issue born out of this complex. He can also be a very bitter person, lingering on things long after they've been resolved. Since he goes above and beyond to help other people, he expects the same from the people around him, not realizing that sometimes conflicts will arise naturally. This is mostly played for laughs with Patrick, but you can see it in a much more raw way at the end of CS2.

While I agree that Rean is more complex than people give him credit for, I think saying that he's a hypocrite for the reasons you gave is a stretch. Rean's core issue (as I read it, at least) is his complex from being adopted, compounded by going Ogre Mode in front of Elise as a kid and what I see as a natural inclination towards caring. All that stuff has mired him in self-loathing, and his unwillingness to say "no" is him (rather unhealthily) trying to make himself feel better. Rean has little to no self-esteem. Meanwhile, I don't see him having difficulty trusting others being an issue at all. I'd say his trust/distrust ratio is fairly average, actually.

I finally completed Trails in the Sky FC, a full 2 years after starting it and falling off on the final chapter intro, and finally moving onto SC. I feel like it is fitting that I finally completed one of my white whale games on new years eve.

TitS: The 3rd as a whole is easily my least favorite of the Sky series - I can't bring myself to care about Kevin either; but it stands out so much in a few ways. There are a handful of tracks in The 3rd that are just killer, and some of the doors are great. What really gets me about it is the dialogue. Every time I had a party where the members potentially had something contextually relevant to say about the situation and/or to each other because of their past - they did. It really impressed me, and it just boggles my mind thinking about the work that had to go into every combo of characters. It just makes you want to play scenes over and over. I would be really interested in a video from XSEED explaining the scope of that to lay people like me.
