Someone who knows how the cap works and would punish teams could obviously explain how this isn't allowed, but I think it would be really funny if an NHL player just said right now "I'm retiring" go play the olympics then just 'un-retire' Also Brian Gionta is loving ancient.

If you retire you can't come back for at least a calendar year

Can Karlsson opt out? I seem to remember he can but I might be wrong, and UFA class with both Tavares and Karlsson's a solid class

That team's not terrible, although it's too bad they couldn't take more AHL vets. It's cool that Chris Bourque is going, he and Arcobello should do well. Brian O'Neill is a really solid AHL/Euro guy too. T-Bone fucked around with this message at 01:35 on Jan 2, 2018 |

Do the Leafs have an outside shot at getting to the finals?

If the Sens can tank their way to Dahlen this year, maybe that would force them to not play Cody Ceci as much as they do next year? And then they might look like an actually good team? Or, better yet, maybe they would even trade away Ceci? I think I'm in the "optimistic delusion" stage of the season. Now to sit back and watch them trade away Hoffman for peanuts (even though he's just as good as Duchene), lose the lottery, and then overpay Ceci a billion dollars while losing Karlsson in free agency.

MOVIE MAJICK posted:Do the Leafs have an outside shot at getting to the finals? Anything could happen but if they get through Boston they would need to play likely Tampa then Washington or a wild card Pittsburgh who beat Washington because that's what Capitals fans deserve.

MOVIE MAJICK posted:Do the Leafs have an outside shot at getting to the finals? Oh for sure. Right now it seems like the Leafs are part of the big second-tier of the East (behind Tampa) and hockey is a lot closer to baseball than basketball in terms of playoff upsets.

It will be pretty incredible if Pittsburgh, Chicago, and Edmonton all miss the playoffs.

If the finals end up being Jets/Leafs the owners will lock out next year in protest.

Ottawa getting dahlin and trotting out a dahlin karlsson combo for one year would be highly unfair and terrifying Edit so naturally edmonton or pittsburgh will win the loving lottery

So how is Vegas doing so well? They're a middling defensive team, but 2nd in goals for somehow. No one predicted that.

They are basically a team full of 2nd and 3rd liners that do their damage in depth, theres not as big a drop off in skill from say their 2nd line to their 4th line like most teams have so they clean up the deeper line matchups.
