Dallas Mavericks: Generations

EvanTH posted:

Why does Randle have to be bad like x guy or y guy? Can't Julius Randle dig out a niche in this ever-changing NBA and be bad in his own new and unique way?

His new destiny is to be the Mavs' small ball center. DSJ/Curry/Matthews/Barnes/Randle. Let's get beat up by bigger teams and tank harder.

He shot .490 on jumpers in his last year in NY then it dipped as he got older and less athletic. Pretending he couldn't shoot isn't fair to him.

1 year out of 12 doesn't make someone a good shooter. For a career Randle is like 5% FG% under Lee at midrange shooting but Randle will actually take occassional 3s (which doesn't really help his eFG% all that much).

Rick posted:

I agree with you about David Lee comp (especially since it's one I've posted before, lol). David Lee was a better finisher, although I guess it's pretty favorable when lining up age. I decided to look at his shooting chart because of Doltos comment and he did have a pretty solid year from two but otherwise it is a super solid chunk of green around the basket, surrounded by red 2s most other years.

I dunno, Lee was a lot more creative but Randle seems just as effective under the basket, but the difference is now you want different things out of your PF, typically. I feel like I see Randle totally blow a dunk or an easy put-back a lot, but his numbers are pretty good overall so that's probably just selective memory.

Jack's Flow posted:

I am actually surprised by Minnesota‘s record. It feels like every time I see them play they lead by double digits before somehow managing to lose anyway.

This year? They've been really good in close games. They blow LOTS of leads, but they've been pretty good at clawing out a victory. They are definitely a 2nd-3rd quarter team, so watching them can feel deflating as they start playing like poo poo in the 4th.

It's still an improvement from last year when they were I think literally the worst team in the 3rd quarter. Like they went from Warriors to Nets in a span of a half-hour break.

David Lee was an awful shooter what the gently caress are you guys talking about.

Randle has a bag of tricks for scoring, especially his big boy spins, of course no jumper, can't defend, very heavy
Noel was the first pick in the draft because he can jump, he can jump on one leg, two legs, from a standstill, from a walk, from a jog
He doesn't drop the ball as much as Javale Magee

But if a play unfolds and there's no obvious section where he needs to jump with/for/at the ball, he doesn't do anything.
Sometimes he does a pouty jump

I feel like jumpers have learned to play basketball after 6 years or so. It's happened. It doesn't always happen

EvanTH posted:

yeah Derozan is finally shooting .350 from three, just as the league moves into a new era where league average is closer to .360

Dwayne Casey sounded miserable when discussing their team mandated "culture change." Maybe they paid Kobe a consultant's fee to make a home video of himself taking threes, then sent it to Demar.

It's hard to forget that Noel wasn't first because there was a huge uproar here when he was still on the board. Then the trade with Jrue happened which was initially Pelicans getting a 1st for Noel. But no, they paid Noel+1st for Jrue.

You can't sleep because a greasy, older man is in a defensive posture hoarsely screaming at you to ICE, ICE?

That would make sleep hard.

Yeah it's not as bad but there's still a little hitch. It's not nearly as fluid looking as his UW shot but it's going in the right direction at least
