UFC January - Conor Will Definitely Defend A Belt in 2018 Last month's thread is here. December brought us some super good fights. December's action started out with the The Ultimate Fighter 26 Finale on the 1st. This event saw a new world champion crowned, with Nicco Montaño beating Roxanne Modafferi in a unanimous decision. A gruelling back-and-forth fight that saw Modeafferi threaten on the ground several times, but never have the measure of Montaño's efficient striking. Lots of Women's Flyweight action on this card, with the UFC seemingly deciding to actually flesh out what has the potential to be a great division. A highlight of this card was Welsh Bantamweight Brett Johns moving to 15-0 with a Performance of the Night submission, hitting only the second calf slicer in the history of the promotion, 30 seconds into the start of the fight. https://twitter.com/UFCONFOX/status/936796124622438400 The following night, UFC 218 saw Max Holloway cement his status as the best 145 pound fighter in the world with a second victory over Jose Aldo Jr. The fight seemed even going into the third round, but Holloway's vicious counterstriking and combinations rocked the former Featherweight champion, and again the fight was waved off late in the third round with Aldo unable to defend himself against a withering barrage. edit: lol this was a gif from 212, I'll find another one. Earlier on the card, Justin Gaethje and Eddie Alvarez met in fight that had the potential to be an absolute war between two of the violent-est men ever to set foot in the octagon. It did not disappoint, with both men throwing brutal strikes and absorbing ridiculous amounts of damage. The body-centric striking of Alvarez started to take a serious toll, and 4 minutes into the third and final round Alvarez blasted Gaethje with a knee to the jaw. Handing Gaethje his first ever loss, Alvarez propels himself back into potential title contention. The Heavyweights were in action that night and Francis Ngannou stamped his claim to a title shot with authority. Fighting perennial Heavyweight contender Alistair Overeem, it was considered that if the young Cameroonian could get past the canny striking of the 20-year-veteran, he could see the next chance at Miocic's strap. He only needed 1:42 of the first round to cement this, with a lead-hand uppercut sending Overeem into the shadow realm - the only significant strike he threw in the whole fight. https://i.imgur.com/BI2JXwT.mp4 UFC Fight Night: Swanson vs. Ortega came along on the 9th. Brian Ortega came into this card undefeated, and left the same way, with a 2nd-round guillotine choke victory over Cub Swanson. The only blemish on Ortega's record now is a positive test for drostanolone; if he can keep his hand out of the candy jar he could be looking at a title shot in the very near future. The highlight of this cardwas Marlon Moraes demonstrating the correct way to utilise a roundhouse knee to remove consciousness from the brain of an opponent, and Aljamain Sterling demonstrating the fencing response to great effect. https://twitter.com/UFCONFOX/status/939720807428759552 The 16th of the month took us to Winnepeg, Manitoba, Canada, for UFC on Fox: Lawler vs. dos Anjos. This card saw the somewhat of a disappointing performance from Robbie Lawler; while he was able to sustain the ridiculous levels of punishment Rafael dos Anjos was putting out, with the Brazilian hitting constant body shots and leg kicks, he didn't look as threatening as he has in past performances. Going down 50-45 on all judges' cards, Lawler's future in the division looks a little cloudy, especially with several hard-charging young fighters coming up the ranks. The final card for the month was UFC 219. This card saw Cristiane Justino put her Featherweight championship on the line against the other woman who is in the division, sometimes, Holly Holm. Justino was again the much larger fighter and in a much more one-sided affair than the judges' scorecards suggested, Justino took the decision, never really looking threatened. Holm was simply not able to hit hard enough to threaten her opponent, and ended the fight with her face looking like a dropped pie. In the co-main event, Khabib Nurmagomedov managed to avoid the temptations of Italian desserts, and laid an absolutely dominant beating on Edson Barboza. While he was unable to put the Brazilian away, Nurmagomedov didn't once look threatened by his opponent and used vastly superior wrestling and ground and pound to take all three rounds 10-8 on one of the judge's cards. Barbosa managed to still look threatening when the fight was standing at the start of each round, but Nurmagomedov was able to take him down at will and dictate the level for the entire 15 minutes. UFC events in January In a slightly quieter month, we will see three events in January. Jeremy Stephens takes on The Korean Superboy Doo Ho Choi in the main event of UFC Fight Night 124. Stephens hasn't been traveling well recently, going 3-5 in his last 8 fights. Choi, on the other hand, lost a very competitive Fight of the Year match against Cub Swanson in December 2016 and has been rehabiliting an injury, and looks to get himself back on track before his mandatory miliary service kicks in at the end of this year. Vitor Belfort is also fighting on this card, because retirements in combat sports mean nothing. UFC 220 comes to you live from Boston, Massachusetts on the 20th of January. Two huge championship matches headline this card, with Daniel Cormier seeking to defend his Light Heavyweight title against Volkan Oezdimir, and in the main event, Stipe Miocic looking to be the only man ever able to defend the UFC Heavyweight Championship three times in a row, against Francis Ngannou. The main event will be a serious test of both men's mettle, with the younger, stronger Ngannou taking on the superior wrestling of Miocic. Both men have that Immigrant Mentality, and a win for either would be a historic event. Lastly, the 27th brings us UFC on Fox: Jacaré vs. Brunson 2 from Charlotte, North Carolina. The Middleweight pair have both been cleanly dispatched in the last year and a bit by current champion Robert Whittaker, and with the upper end of their division looking extremely stacked, this is shaping up to be a "best of the rest" type match. UFC News Biggest news this month was the announcement by Georges St-Pierre that he would be re-returning to the sidelines. Health issues that plagued his attempts at weight gain during the leadup to his Middleweight championship match with Michael Bisping reared their head again, and he confirmed he would be vacating his Middleweight title due to ulcerative colitis. With this, Robert Whittaker was promoted to Undisputed Middleweight Champion, and will be making his first defense at UFC 221 in Perth in February 2018. Mark Hunt passed all the tests that the UFC subjected him to earlier last month, and as such has been booked at UFC 221 against Curtis Blaydes. Retiring in front of an Australian crowd with his arm raised would be an excellent way for his storied career to end. The most recent news on Light Heavyweight challenger Volkan Oezdemir's arrest is that his case will be heard on the 9th of January, and that the charge of aggravated battery had been downgraded to felony battery. The UFC and Oezdimir's representation are both confident this will not have any effect on announced plans for the Swiss fighter to challenge for the Light Heavyweight championship this month. Nate Marquadt announced his retirement, ending his 19-year career with a record of 35-19-2. His finest ever moment is immortalised in this link: https://streamable.com/wy6mn. In Conor News, he is now ducking his own immune system, coming down with the Australian 'flu over the New Year period and having to cancel several promotional appearances. He has been going back and forth on Twitter with Tony Ferguson and Khabib Nurmagomedov for the last few days, in an increasingly-tired attempt to retain relevance. Your Current Champions  Men's Heavyweight Champion - Stipe Miocic (19-2) Stipe Miocic won the Heavyweight title in May of 2016, stopping Fabricio Verdum in front of his countrymen in a single round. He backed this feat up with another first-round stoppage of the most decorated Heavyweight of all time, Alistair Overeem, in Miocic's home town of Cleveland in September. It was considered that the winner of the fight between Werdum and Cain Velasquez at UFC 207, a rematch of the fight where Werdum took Velasquez' belt from him in 2015, would be Miocic's next opponent, but Velasquez was forced out of this bout with yet another leg injury. Miocic defended his title in May 2017, with yet another first round KO of his opponent, making Junior dos Santos his second scalp as champion and equalling the all-time title defenses record. He looks to defend his title against Francis Ngannou at UFC 220 this month, and if successful will be the first man to ever defend the belt three times in a row.  Men's Light Heavyweight Champion - Daniel Cormier (19-1-(1)) Daniel Cormier won the belt initially in May of 2015 against the heavy-hitting Anthony Johnson by rear-naked choke in the third round. Cormier defended his belt against Alexander Gustaffson in October of 2015 in a split decision. A planned rematch against Jon Jones was scheduled for UFC 200, which was called off after Jones tested positive for banned substances. Cormier went on to fight Anderson Silva in a non-title bout on three days' notice. Cormier was slated to fight Anthony Johnson in a rematch for the belt in December, a match which did not took place due to Cormier suffering a groin adductor injury. The bout took place at UFC 210 in April, with Cormier defending the belt in under two rounds and Johnson riding off into the sunset with a surprise retirement. The rematch against Jon Jones finally took place at UFC 215 and Jones managed to keep his poo poo together for a grand total of 24 days. Then he tested positive for steroids and had the fight result overturned and the title stripped, and it is now back around the waist of Cool MMA Dad Daniel Cormier. Cormier's next challenger has been announced as Volkan "No Time" Oezdemir, with the fight scheduled for UFC 220 this month.  Men's Middleweight Champion - Robert Whittaker (19-4) Whittaker rode a seven-fight winning streak, including shutting down the deadly takedowns of Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza to slot himself into an Interim Middleweight championship match against Yoel "Soldier of God" Romero. The canny Australian showed incredible heart in taking it to the Cuban Olympic silver medalist over five rounds, and even with a severe knee injury coming in the first he managed to outpoint his opponent to take the unanimous decision. With Georges St-Pierre vacating his belt in early December 2017, Whittaker has now been promoted to Undisputed Middleweight Champion. Having now succesfully rehabilited the knee he injured in his match with Romero, he will look to make his first defense against Luke Rockhold at UFC 221 in Perth, Australia, in February 2018.  Men's Welterweight Champion - Tyron Woodley (17-3-1) Woodley was promised a title shot against the Welterweight champion 17 months before the fight took place. After Robbie Lawler put in Fight Of The Year performances against Rory MacDonald in July 2015 and Carlos Condit in January 2016, Woodley went into their fight in July of 2016 as a significant underdog. This meant nothing, with Lawler going down to strikes in the first round. Woodley defended his belt against Stephen "Wonderboy" Thompson, putting on an incredible fight that ended in a majority draw at UFC 205 in New York in November 2016. A rematch for this fight was held in March month at UFC 209, with Woodley again the winner in a stilted affair. He defended the title again at UFC 214 in late July 2017 against Demian Maia, following a conservative but sharp gameplan that saw him stop all 22 of the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu ace's takedown attempts. Rafael dos Anjos has been talked up as the next challenger with his decisive win over former champion Robbie Lawler, but nothing is booked at this stage, with Woodley possibly about to take time off for shoulder surgery.  Men's Lightweight Champion - Conor McGregor (21-3) Easily beat Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205 in November, becoming the first ever UFC fighter to hold the belts in two divisions at the same time. Several fights are being talked up for Conor at the moment, including Nate Diaz for the LW belt, Khabib Nurmagomedov for the LW belt and even Tyron Woodley for the WW belt. Conor has also talked about taking some time off. The featherweight title was either stripped from Conor, or he relinquished it, following the injury to Daniel Cormier leaving UFC 206 without a title fight for the main event. Conor then took a ton of time off to go fight the biggest-money boxing match of all time, and is now looking for a piece of the promotion action before coming back to MMA. Extra-curricular activities that have landed him in various types of hot water have been the order of the day for McGregor at the moment.  Interim Lightweight Champion Tony Ferguson (26-3) Tony rode an impressive 9-win/8 bonus award UFC streak to be booked against Khabib Murmagomedov at UFC 209. Unfortunately, Khalabeeb decided he would rather get into a losing fight against a plate of tiramisu and failed to make it to the match. A match against Kevin Lee was announced for UFC 216, with Lee nearly losing to tiramisu before the weigh-in. Ferguson used superior cardio and grappling and the fact he wasn't trying to overcome a staph infection to win by triangle choke late in the 3rd round. Logic dictates his next fight will be against Conor McGregor, but logic has nothing to do with what happens next with that Irishman.  Men's Featherweight Champion - Max Holloway (19-3) Holloway put together a 9-fight win streak, with several Performance of the Night bonuses, before answering the call to contend for the Interim Featherweight Championship at UFC 206 in December 2016. Taking out Anthony Pettis with a body kick and punches late in the third round, he has set himself up for a unification bout against Jose Aldo at UFC 212. At that event in early June 2017, he defeated Aldo in the third round with focused ground and pound, and unified the belts. Frankie Edgar was announced as Holloway's first defense, but with Edgar out with a broken face, the rematch with Jose Aldo Jr took place at UFC 218 in early December 2017. It was a carbon copy of the first match, with Aldo unable to weather the combinations of The Blessed One, being stopped in the third round. No future challenger is announced.  Men's Bantamweight Champion - TJ Dillashaw (18-3) When he was announced as the coach on The Ultimate Fighter: Redemption against then-champion Cody Garbrandt, the outcome was planned to be a fight between the two for Garbrandt's Bantamweight championship. While the fight between the two was originally announced for July 8 2017 at UFC 213, Garbrandt dropped out with a back injury during May, and it was re-booked for UFC 217 in November. Dillashaw started a slight underdog, but got the job done in the second round with a solid right hook and follow up ground and pound. With his second title reign starting, Dillashaw has no title defense currently scheduled.  Men's Flyweight Champion - Demetrious Johnson (27-2-1) After winning the Flyweight Championship in September 2012 in a split decision against Joseph Benevidez, Johnson has amassed a 10-fight streak against the best that the division has had to offer. He has been so dominant that the UFC held an entire Ultimate Figher tournament to find his next challenger. The culmination of this was that Tim Elliott came back out of the MMA wilderness to lose a competitive match against Johnson in early December 2016. Johnson easily defended his title against Wilson Reis in April, tying the all-time title defense record held by Anderson Silva. His next was scheduled to take place at UFC 215, with Ray Borg the chosen recipient of a life-altering mauling, but Borg pulled out with an unspecified illness. This match was re-scheduled for UFC 216 on the 7th of October, which saw Johnson soundly beat Borg for four and a half rounds. The champion then casually threw his opponent over his shoulder and grabbed his arm on the way down for a submission win. With TJ Dillashaw now the Bantamweight champion, a superfight between the two for Johnson's Flyweight championship has been mooted.  Women's Featherweight Champion - Cristiana Justino (19–1 (1)) With the vacating of this championship by Germaine de Randamie in May 2017, a match was set up for UFC 214 between Justino and Megan Anderson. Anderson pulled out of the fight in late June, and was replaced by current Invicta FC Bantamweight Champion Tonya Evinger. The significantly larger fighter on the day, Justino dominated a one-sided affair and won the fight in the third round with brutal knee strikes. Justino defended her championship against Holly Holm at UFC 219 in December 2017, again being the much larger fighter and keeping Holm at bay to take a comprehensive decision victory.  Women's Bantamweight Champion - Amanda Nunes (14-4) Nunes headlined UFC 200 in July of 2016, putting a vicious beating on Miesha Tate and securing a rear-nake choke victory in a little over three minutes. She backed this up with a brutal 48-second TKO victory against former Women's Bantamweight Champion and WMMA pioneer Rounda Rousey in late December 2016. Nunes was slated to take on Valentina Shevchenko in a rematch of their March 2016 fight, with that match being moved to UFC 215 last month. Nunes retained by a razor-thin split decision, and no future contender is announced at this stage.  Women's Flyweight Champion - Nicco Montaño (4-2) After amassing a 5-0 record as an amateur, Nicco turned pro in late 2015. Going 3-2 before signing up to The Ultimate Fighter: A New World Champion, Nicco used her tenacity and solid striking game to garner three decision wins in a row on the reality show. Originally slated to face Sijara Eubanks at the TUF Finale, she ended up taking out a hard-fought decision victory over Goon favourite Roxanne Modaferri to become the first UFC Women's Flyweight champion. No defense is announced at this stage.  Women's Strawweight Champion - Rose Namajunas (10-3) After cleaning out the Women's Strawweight division, Joanna Jędrzejczyk seemed to have no more mountains to conquer. After beating Michelle Waterson by rear-naked choke in April 2017, Namajunas was announced as the next contender for want of any other new challengers. In a massive upset, Namajunas beat Jędrzejczyk by TKO in the first round of their championship fight at UFC 217. No challenger is announced at this stage. Conor is poo poo at trash talk. He's just better than everyone else in MMA. Which sounds like an accomplishment, but isn't, much like being the best heavyweight or the worst SA poster. Also, Roxanne fought in a UFC title fight in 2017. This is the weirdest timeline.

Its been basically unusable for me on Chromecast for a long time. Tried it on my Xbox, Fire Stick and Shield and it's not a ton better. The apps on those seem really awkward and I still get stuttering and playback issues.

Apparently Jimmy Smith left Bellator http://mmajunkie.com/2017/12/jimmy-smith-bellator-parting-ways-after-seven-years Would be cool to see him picked up by UFC even if its for their Fight Pass event stuff if not for the UFC. Edit - As in, a main broadcast guy for DWTNCS, Glory, Invicta etc.

You really couldn't design a better Rogan replacement than Jimmy Smith. He has actual fight experience, follows MMA more closely, same personality but not as annoying, and he even looks the same. UFC should just straight up give him Rogan's contract since Joe wants to retire and only do 1 vegas show a year when his contract is up anyway.
