I've had plenty of fun watching GDQ ever since I actively started (2015 or so). e: There's also a small number of people who go out of their way to trash GDQ every year, making false photoshops and video edits and of course spreading rumours on how the GDQ staff is actually secretly lizard hybrids who steal all the donation money for themselves.

I hope they find a way to get people in the stream room during runs this time around. The gallery was totally dead for 90% of runs during SGDQ, even during the daytime.

I've had plenty of fun watching GDQ ever since I actively started (2015 or so). Just thinking back to stuff like Bonesaw's hilarious run of Jak 2 (or was it 1? It's been awhile) that seemed to be a huge fan favorite because of how insanely jetlagged he was. Everyone was laughing and having a good time and then he got banned for a year (I think?) for it. Then couches in general seemed to all go dead silent and almost every run I tuned into last year had the runner just mumbling about saving a few seconds and that was it (though again, will admit I didn't watch a lot so maybe I just kept hitting really bad times). No real banter, no jokes being made. Just mumbling and donations with a bored looking couch. It just came off as way more sterile and not that exciting to watch because it felt like (to me and what I saw) it was more of a job then a bunch of guys and gals getting together to have fun raising money for a good cause. Like I'm not going to buy into stealing money claims or anything like that and I'm not going to call it a waste of time if it helps people, just kind of stating how it's felt to me over the last couple years.

Also something about a airline that hosed with his flight coming in or something like that where he clearly joked about tweeting them. Like for real that was harmless goofing around while doing a really funny run that brought in a ton of money or are we rewriting it as a bad unfunny run that everyone didn't like. Would help balance things out for me because the only thing I recall is "man air canada is going to be super confused when they wake up and see this lol" Like how was he unprepared? He showed up and did his run pretty drat well and didn't hold anything up so I'm actually kinda curious.

I've been watching since AGDQ 2012 and I remember one middle of the night run during SGDQ 2013 (don't remember the actual run) I was like one of the only people watching and I held a conversation with the runner via donations.

ThisIsACoolGuy posted:Mind going into this a bit more? Would help balance things out for me because the only thing I recall is "man air canada is going to be super confused when they wake up and see this lol" He clearly didn't get enough sleep and as a result was making mistakes the entire run to the point it was almost mercy killed. quote:Looking at cons, I mangled my presentation of Jak and Daxter to the highest degree and I apologise deeply. During the run, I could feel my phone going off in my pocket and I was starting to get anxiety, having this genuine feeling that people on Twitter were saying what a screwup the run was and how anyone who plays this bad could get in to a GDQ. Truth is, I was approached by staff after the run and they said they were looking at two options: mercy killing the run and ending it right there, or memeing literally so hard that we made the run a success. To be honest, I had mixed feelings immediately following the run, because the laughs and memes were great, but I really felt like I let a lot of people down by giving such a bad performance. I practised a lot and had a generally good time doing the practice, but by then I was so far gone with jet lag and stress that there was a very low chance I was gonna be able to give a decent showing of the run. I was so disappointed in myself after ward. I outlined all of this in a poorly formatted Reddit post in one of the SGDQ threads. In a way, I lost the only thing I stand for in speedrunning; to have fun. I told myself, if things start to go badly, just have fun with it, but it took me a long time to let that "whale of attachment" go (about an hour and fifteen lmao). Finally I thought, if there's one thing I'm going to do right during the run, it's to have fun with my friends, and play a video game like no one was watching. Go out with a bang. Show em all you've got a personality. Moral of the story: Pressure is unnecessary. Have fun. https://pastebin.com/bzV6uet5 1-800-DOCTORB fucked around with this message at 23:26 on Jan 6, 2018 |

Hello chums, I am excited for AGDQ 2018 because I love watching this event. There are some games on the list I've player but not seen speedrun before so that'll be fun to see! One year I hope to attend in person to watch as much as I can but sadly for me that is not this year. Once again I will probably post more in this thread than I do in an entire year on the forums because I am boring and bad at posting.

Also, as mentioned before, Bonesaw wasn't banned, he just couldn't submit runs for a year (?) and sat on the couch for tekkie's Silent Hill 2 run last SGDQ. e: I mean, Bonesaw's run was a glorious trainwreck of a run, but you can't really expect the staff to be fine with somebody making such a mess of a run all the time. I tend to remember the good stuff, not focus on the bad ones. Although I will admit I'm real bad with awkward stuff and can't even bear to watch replays of stuff like the "jump in front of the shuttle" guy. I mean, if you have as messy of a run as Bonesaw did with a lot of real world shenanigans, even if it turns out to be hilarious you probably should sit out a couple of events. The dude and his couch (the guy that kept pushing him was on the couch for another run in SGDQ, can't remember which one now) were funny and personable, but imagine if the MAGA shitlords see how popular that poo poo was and tried to replicate it with their amazing sense of humor?
