Last Illusion 4

Final Fantasy IV (also revealed some missing figures up to the last Fantasy VII, also known as Final Fantasy II) was released for SNES in 1991. With some blending of censorship and goofiness translated by Ted Ulji it is one of the classics of the game. Since its even number both releases are okay with Demerine's book number.

Now that stupid translations were to deal with storage limitations, censorship and Japanese jokes were held together with ducktape and prayer wish. The localizer's tomato pointed out (Star Lagoon Fan translation for Star Ocean and SNES, GBA's mother 3) decided to run the j script through Google Translate and push the results back to the game. The result can be described as spoony only in the best case. He generated two patches from the beginning when Google became self-aware, changed after the neural net engine and one. The patch I use is the one after. So sadly we will not neutralize Germany.
http://legendsoflocalization.com/funky-fantasy-iv/

Liquidypoo with me, Demerine, and my wife's lady will not show - this - will be the forum Dragon.

Couple further notes
This is the original Final Fantasy IV. Japan started things before it was watered down and made "simple type" or what we got in dozens of items and things dummied.
From the tomato readme file "4. Google's translation sometimes warns that having a soul likes saying terrible things, I do not approve of one of its offensive agendas." I'm probably going to blur or edit something that is really incredibly wrong, otherwise.

Spoiler policy:
It goes to the old game, wild pigs talking about it. But, do not mess with the surprises we find in translation

For now fun part, you may have noticed the fact that I took some shots on a couple shots on either head, or liver. I will vomit back to understand what Google understands when trying to drive this opening post, to translate into japanese into japanese.

Care for me to run it again?
Fine, you're no fun, here's the original incomprehensible trash I wrote rather than incomprehensible trash created after having it translated twice.

Final Fantasy IV (Also known as Final Fantasy II in America until Final Fantasy VII revealed a few missing numerals) Was released for the SNES in 1991. Translated by Ted Woolsey in some blend of censorship and goofiness it is one of the classics in gaming. Since its even numbered in both releases it is alright in Demerine's book.

Now since it was a goofy translation to deal with storage limitations, censorship and Japanese jokes it was held together by ducktape and prayer wish. Noted localizer Tomato (Star Ocean and Bahamut Lagoon fan translations for the SNES, Mother 3 for GBA) decided to run the Japenese Script through Google Translate and then shove the results back into the game. The results, in the best case can only be described as spoony. He's generated 2 patches, one from before Google became self-aware changed to a neural net engine and one after. He didn't, but he came just close enough to the end of its dev cycle that he could witness the trainwreck:

Ted posted:

Chris: So what was Square's localization process like before you got there?

Ted: They really didn't have one. They had a person who spoke some English and she did her best with Final Fantasy II, which was her game. I didn't have a chance to work on that game. When I talked to the guys that that hired me, the senior VP and then the finance guy, they basically had spent some 24 hour blocks of time late into the evenings, trying to rewrite the text as best they could without ever having played the game. They found so many issues with the screen text when they started reading it, they figured they should take a shot at it. So it was a mess. I think that's why Sakaguchi-san and others said, "Hey we need to try to fix this." I was brought on board and it turned out I got to do an awful lot of things. But certainly the main focus for me was to look at the manuals and the screen text and translate those things.

Greg: Just to clarify for people, did you do anything with Final Fantasy II or was that mostly done by the time you got there?

Ted: That was all done, in fact at the time there was about a two or three-month manufacturing process to have all the ROMs created. They were being manufactured and the manual was all done, there were some spectacular boo-boo's in the manual. One of the descriptions for a magic effect was "blows wizard."

Greg: [laughter]

Ted: As opposed to be "blows blizzard," which it should've been, or something like that. So there was little things along the way. Because the Super NES was launching and they wanted to accelerate that, Nintendo said "OK, let's just get this thing through." Once you get one of these games through it's pretty hard go back and start massaging the screen text and other parts of it because things just break so easily.

Here's the full interview, of anyone's curious about the woes localizers had to face in the 90s.

Bloodborne #03 - Vicious Apologetics
Bloodborne sure gets to the "church is evil" stuff pretty quickly, huh? Proof that is a JRPG! :v: I think you're supposed to deal with Gascoigne first, since even after gitting gudder at BB the Beast is still a hideous slog. This one took me a few tries but it wasn't too bad.

I'm not sure if this really qualifies as an LP, but I posted it in the outside-SA thread and was told to bring it here, so:

I've been recording AI vs. AI matches in Fire Pro Wrestling World and putting them on youtube, and I don't really know how they are to watch outside the game's context, but they're fun as gently caress to make if nothing else.

I really hope I'm not stepping over any boundaries here, I know stuff that didn't really start on this subforum is kind of frowned upon and I'm only bringing it here because I was explicitly told that's a good idea. :ohdear:

He who fights too long against dragons becomes a dragon himself
Trying something new on this batch of Dragon's Dogma videos: re-saving them as CBR before splicing in stream audio rather than just dumping the Shadowplay file in and manually re-syncing it. Since the game isn't 60fps all the time thanks to my subpar video card, not sure how it turned out; so let me know if you're watching.

Bloodborne #04 - Forgive Me, Father!
So it's time for Gascoigne. I don't have the music box, it's getting late, and the pressure is on since my brother managed to beat him on his first try (albeit hiding behind the tombstones with the saw spear, but still). It, well... is not my finest hour. This is also the last video in stream "quality," I got the Elgato to behave so the next batch should be in 1080p. Should be.

Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen Part 19 - Obligatory Water Temple
This is the other big dungeon adventure the Wyrm Hunt sends you to: Watergod's Altar. This one and Shadow Fort both have "level check" encounters (defense on the armored cyclopes in the Fort, damage on the sulfur saurians here), but because the mooks are tougher I generally recommend doing it sooner. Of course, no escort quest to auto-fail it helps too. :sweatdrop:

Have you ever wanted to speedrun a videogame, but would rather not put in the hundreds of hours required to memorize the most basic routes used by professionals? Power Rangers: Time Force may be just the game for you. This 3d beat 'em up focuses its entire design around speeding through levels as quickly as possible, and comes with revolutionary "pre-broken" combat mechanics to make things even speedier. Time for Time Force.

I've been mixing in some smaller videos (like streams I didn't do a HQ version of) on the channel too in between the 2 days it takes to upload the high-bitrate ones. If any of you folks like Master of Orion 2, here's the playlist. And now, the fortnightly update! :sweatdrop:

Bloodborne #05 - In Glorious 1080p!
This next batch is indeed in 1080p, but the rest are back to 720, I forgot that trying this darn near fried the PC. We have our rematch with Gascoigne, and then it's off to Old Yharnam!

Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen Part 20 - Seeking Salvation
We wrap up the Watergod's Altar and then start on the last Wyrm Hunt quest, finding out where Salvation is hiding and then going there to... do something about it. Is being in a doomsday cult really a crime? It's not like they're causing the Dragon to do anything, they just think it's hella sweet instead of being terrified about it. Hmm.

I don't know how well it comes across, but Bloodborne really is a great "first experience." I remember this 2nd stream pretty well even now over a year later. It doesn't hold up as well on repeated plays as Dark Souls, though (at least in my opinion).

Bloodborne #06 - Burning Old Yharnam
Between using that Hunter's Torch and going through the upper entrance to the chapel, we get to set a lot of beasts on fire this episode. Dueling Djura goes about as well as you'd expect. :sweatdrop:

Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen Part 21 - Los Ganados!
Of course the Catacombs would be full of zombies. There's even an Ogre, though they're not quite big enough for El Gigante.... If the player doesn't go back to Cassardis and doesn't pay attention to the small cloaked figure walking away from the scripted cyclops encounter, this could very possibly be your first meeting with the Elysion. He's not really the "villain," but it's still weird how the game handles him.

I wonder how you spell Tabasco.

Hey, everybody. I'm going to test this out here after talking about it with Fedule.

After my Sly Cooper LP series ground to a halt when I moved away from my cohosts, I was kinda hankering to make something on a weekly basis, and that's where I got the idea to make a show that showcases cheap and new Steam games. Sure, there's garbage on Steam, but I thought that I could maybe find and showcase the good'ns that need some love.

So, I wrote a script with a programming language, R, to scrape the Steam store for games that:
  • came out in the last 7 days
  • are under $5
  • have positive reviews
My worry: this is more "YouTube-y" than anything I've shared on SA so far, so if we don't want my episodes to show up on this thread once a week, let me know. There are things in it that might be grating, here. I'm planning on making these every Sunday.

Here's Delete: a Minesweeper adaptation that's only $2.00.
