Do people still run their phones on little rail setups to hatch eggs or did they just move to abusing GPS drift?

lmao, wrong

look, you're frustrated, I get that. The system is frustratingly opaque and probably broken, we agree. Thinking it should change to accommodate the hardcore specifically? That's against Niantic's deliberate design goals. Ones which, I might add, are making them loving huge quantities of money.

e: I can't see it happening unless they also do something to draw in more casual players. Look at the gym rework; was that designed for the level 40s? Sure no. Did it lose them a bunch of money? Sure didn't. And high level players already have something. You just want something more.

this isn't about whether or not I like what they're doing - that's not even relevant. But it's fundamentally part of Go that it is not a hardcore Pokemon game catering to the hardcore Pokemon players and it hasn't been since day one. So you have to consider things through that lens.

I never said it should be targeted specifically for harcores, what is this noise you're drumming up. I said it should give you a better chance to get one.

I'm not upset over this, I already got a Mewtwo on my primary account. I do think it's hilariously hypocritical for Niantic to send out a developer note update telling the community at large that more raiding = better chance of getting an EX pass, and then just from a single raid from an account I haven't used in a good 6 months got me access to one of the toughest Pokemon in the game.

I know that casuals spend money on this game, but when I use that term in this case I'm talking about people who stop raiding once their free daily pass is used up, there's a lot of them out there. There needs to be a balance here, not favoring one group over the other completely, that seems to be how you're reading into my statements which is a bit absurd.

I think people who raid with their free pass every day should have the exact same chance as people who raid more than once a day because being able to buy an extra shot at a mewtwo raid for a dollar seems like it has more to do with gambling than it does video games.

No, you're misinterpreting me. The thing is, hardcore players already have an advantage in pulling EX raid passes. If you want it to be an even bigger advantage, that (e: likely) goes against how Niantic's development strategy for Go since day one. "accommodate" doesn't mean "everything must be for them specifically and exclusively," I didn't make that claim.

as far as the rest of your post goes I think you're making a mountain out of a molehill when one account you haven't raided with frequently gets an EX pass. So what? Proves the system works and will distribute even to casual players while it gives hardcore a better shot. Is just absurd enough to be properly Niantic

I'm loving Julio's and Parrotines back and forth and I can't be the only one.

I fear for when they start adding more pokemon to the exraids and your chance goes down even further.
It doesn't seem like the exraid system is going to scale well at all.
Congratulations, you have a 1% chance of getting an exraid pass and on that pass you have an x% chance of getting that special legendary pokemon you really want!

It's a shame though, because I do love the idea behind the Exraid system. Suddenly getting that invite will make the player feel special.

However the set times are terrible (who in the right mind thinks 14:30 on a Tuesday is a good idea?) and the randomness works against it. Why not make it less random, but keep it really exclusive as in 1 per trainer.

If all the legendaries were one per trainer, same with Mewtwo, I'd be totally fine with the EX system entirely.

I mean people would multiaccount like poo poo but they already do that for an EX pass.

Some dude in our raid group got pissy the other day because people don't want to raid with him any more. Perhaps it has something to do with the fact he has four Mewtwos and whines he hasn't gotten a 100% one yet and is debating about setting up two more accounts to try for the perfect one. Most of our group has yet to get one, and those that do tend not to brag about it or laugh at people who haven't gotten a pass, because they aren't assholes who need a perfect Mewtwo.

Still my favourite part about this thread is how aggressively dumb people get while wilfully misunderstanding RNG. I can have sympathy for people unaware of the mechanics but for those who should know better, like everyone in this thread, it amazes me how desperate people are to interpret meaning and patterns from pure random chance. I guess it’s the part of human nature that allows Las Vegas to exist.

yall keep selling mewtwo way too short. the #1 attribute in this game's raid and gym system is speed, and that's based on how much damage you can spit out. Mewtwo is the absolute top tier for that. Heck, I keep the fighting charge move on my primary mewtwo just for the 8 million blisseys, chanseys and snorlax i have to fight over and over

Who cares if lugia can solo some random gym battle better than mewtwo? Mewtwo is going to save me time so I don't have to stand around for fifteen minutes tearing down a gym. It's even more important when people are remote berrying and the slower you kill the easier it is for them to defend.

I agree with this. The whole point of legendaries is that they're meant to be extremely hard to catch but when you've got people with 50+ caught of them it ruins that idea somewhat.

Their idea of making legendaries seem scarce was to not allow them to defend gyms, which... uh, sure.

What they maybe could do is introduce bottle caps into the game for the spergs wanting 100%s. For those who didn't play gen 7, these can be used to increase IVs. Granted they would have to be really really hard to get, and there's nothing hard about this game.

If they went this route I think they'd have to do both. One legendary per trainer would need some mechanism to let you have a 100 IV one because - at least in my experience - the same people who care about IVs are the ones who care about having 40 Raikous. Maybe repeated raiding of the same legendary boss (remember they want to keep raid participation up, too) would get you bottle caps?

it also raises the question about what they'd do with the six groudons I have or whatever, so I think that ship has sailed and it's not changing anyway.

They should introduce EV's instead of tweaking IV's—make the EV's hold a ton more value. It gives folks more incentive to battle in Gyms to increase a mon's power further beyond. Hell, make it so you gain even more EV's based on your Gym badge, or if it's a defender and it knocks out an attacker (driving more diversity for gym defenders since you'd want your favorite pokemon to be maxed out quicker). It would feel like my Pokemon to actually get some sort of growth on top of force feeding it high-sucrose Poke carcasses.

By gym battles do you mean raids? You can start doing them whenever you want, but just let people know you are low level so they know to account for your strength level. If you mean regular gym battles just do whatever lol

As for finding groups, facebook is probably the closest thing to universal so check your local area + "pokemon go" and hope to get in touch with fellow players. Otherwise you have to do things the hard way and show up to raids and hope you come across them there.

And now for the why.

iOS 11 retired a hacky compatibility layer for Apple A6 and earlier. It was a heck of a memory hog, and any app that drops support for the A6 (and earlier) gains substantial memory benefits. Eventually, all apps must drop A6 support. This was announced by Apple in October 2014.
