Unrelated: someone recently turned me on to the game Furi, which has an _amazing_ synth soundtrack (Perturbator, Waveshaper, carpenter brut, Danger, ...) that turned me towards some artists I hadn't found before. Full OST is on bandcamp too https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4EgGj6t_Fj8&t=4258s

So this is the first news I've seen where they confirm the new album is done.

quote:

Want to be on the new GUNSHIP album? Well if so... read on...

The GOOD NEWS is - album two recording is finished!!! Well, except for one tiny piece... but we'd like to give that part up to you guys.

If you would like your voice to feature on the record then here's the plan. We'd simply like you to record yourself speaking something short and positive and send it to us.

3-7 words would be ideal - something uplifting, perhaps words you live by, perhaps something that helps you get through troubling times.

A phone recording is good enough, although, as rad as it might be, please don't send in screaming ;) We'll pick a handful of the best and put them in the album track. Mixing of the album will then begin!

Before sending your recording, read the legal bit below!

Please send recordings to: GunshipSubmissions@gmail.com

Legal bit: By sending in your voice recording to us - you irrevocably agree to waive all rights to your recording and allow Horsie In The Hedge LLP and the band known as 'Gunship', freedom to do as they will with it in perpetuity.

Weird to think its been 2+ years since they exploded onto the scene. 2015 feels like just yesterday.

I listen to a podcast called Beyond Synth that specializes in this genre. It's pretty cool compared to other similar ones in that the music selection is good, the interviews done with musicians are generally interesting and the host actually manages to make me laugh sometimes.

I really like Beyond Synth but holy crap does that guy have the whole "DJ in love with hearing himself talk" thing down perfectly.

Any Trevor Something fans here? I've been a fan for a while but am not quite sure how to classify his music. New Retro-gaze?

Anyways, he dropped a new song and I quite like it. Maybe you will too.

You get used to that. I might have been desensitized by the time I found it because almost every other show I checked out had 15+ minutes of generic drivel in between songs, making it a refreshing change to hear someone that at the very least still had some enthusiasm

New Carpenter Brut album out:

https://carpenterbrut.bandcamp.com/album/leather-teeth

EDIT: Honestly, I am not feeling it. TRILOGY had some bite to it, this sounds like someone way less talented studiously trying to make a Carpenter Brut soundalike.

Just came in to post that. So far it's more reminiscent of the first two parts of the trilogy, but is also a little poppier in some cases. Inferno Galore is basically disco, so this is firmly a Very Good Album.

edit: still not a huge fan of his vocal tracks.
edit 2: Hairspray Hurricane is amazing.

Just finished listening to the new Carpenter Brut and I think I need more time to process it. I do know what when it ended my first reaction was "That's it?" but that might be because its 10 tracks shorter than Trilogy and each song is kinda short. I don't think any of the songs are bad but none stand out the way Roller Mobster, Le Perv, or Run Sally Run did.

Maleh-Vor
Oct 26, 2003

Artificial difficulty.
That's mainly because it's an EP like the 3 albums that were later merged into Trilogy were. It does feel overall weaker, but that was the case since EP3 when he started using vocals. It's still a lot better than most of what I've seen on the scene, but in comparison to his first two EPs it's definitely not as great. I think I'll love it more after a few listens, but overall I feel Inferno Galore and Hairspray Hurricane are the strongest tracks on the album. Beware the Beast would have been amazing with a better singer, since it's clearly inspired by classic heavy metal.

His guitarist is def influencing the heavy metal take. And he might be catering to the massive metal audience that has become interested in synthwave. Monday hunt is totally metal too. I think I like it overall. The first vocal track was weak as poo poo though. Opening track i strong, Leather Teeth. I think I like this the most after 2 listens.

Leather Teeth is the first release in a new trilogy.

I'm liking Leather Teeth, Hairspray Hurricane and End Titles. The others will need to grow on me, not feeling the vocal tracks right now.
