Chicago area doomsters: My band Flesh of the Stars is playing a free show at Schuba's Tavern on Wednesday, January 31 with Cokegoat and Marmora. It should be a great show! I will buy you a beer if you come. Just don't ask if there are stairs in my house.

Yob has finished recording their next album and it's due out in the summer on Relapse, who they've signed to. Real excited about this one.

despite the super generic band name and subject matter (everyone please stop singing about lucifer, witches, monsters and d&d), this is p. good and original, weird guitar sound tho but it works!

It's like, maybe the fastest song posted in this thread in a while. I dig it. They're playing together here in Richmond in March and my girlfriend and I are friends with one of the Satyrs guitarists. Gonna be a sick show.

I know a few people in this thread know some of these dudes, and I've seen them several times around DC, so I hate to be critical, but their first record is just so remarkably cool and the followups have been lacking. That being said, this is the best thing I've heard from since that debut, so nice!

My girlfriend works at the restaurant their guitarist Jarrett cooks at when they're not touring. She did some embroidery on his battle vest that Liz Cunningham from Electric Wizard said was sick and that's my closest brush with metal fame. She's about to start a big piece across the back of his vest that says Pussy Freak so look for that if you see them on their upcoming tour!

So this is the best place to ask I guess - I got tickets for Dead Meadow in DC in March. It looks like the lineup has changed and now it says, "Dead Meadow and Courtney Marie Andrews". The latter seems like a folky singer songwriter type. I think this is a pretty weird match. Has anyone ever heard them play with her?

I'll be a bit disappointed to be honest, if she's singing a lot. I wanted to see Dead Meadow.

Kayo Dot are at least sometimes a metal band (and definitely entered that zone during their set). I was never a huge fan but I’m glad I got a maudlin of the Well shirt out of it.

Dead meadow has a fair amount of psych folk influence and depending on the album are more just psychedelic than heavy psych. The singer has also released solo folk albums so it's a pretty natural match for them to perform with a folk artist.

Shroud Eater are still great and now that I've seen again them the new year has officially started.

Muddy Roots does look pretty loving great and lots of my friends are going. Not me though, no way I can get time off at that time of year :smith:

With that line-up as it already is I half think Neurosis is a likely addition, too.

It's kinda bonkers, but that fest has been on the rise for a couple years. I really hope that this means Sleep will do a full summer tour.

Much love to my people back home and the middle TN goons in this thread but I don't really wanna come in from DC and go sweat it out in the field.

Sorry for the shameless self-promotion (not really lol), but I was mentioned in this "best album art of 2017" list for my DVNE cover: http://www.heavyblogisheavy.com/2017/12/28/2017-review-year-album-art/

Obviously the Beksinski-inspired Bell Witch cover was first, but it's cool to be mentioned :)
