I'm assuming this is going to be good solely because I like all those actors but we'll see.

I'm surprised this is finally actually coming out. This has been one of those in development forever shows.

Yeah, it's pretty good. One of the last books Dan Simmons wrote before going completely broke brained. It's kind of an odd duck though as it is meticulously researched and historically accurate and then a giant monster shows up.

It's probably true and his image is his brand. It's not really weird for a celebrity to cultivate a brand even if it bares no resemblance to themselves.

All this just reinforces what a pain in the rear end straight relationships are. Like you have no idea how much easier and better things are when you don't have to approach every relationship from a bad-faith dance of going out of your way to prove that you're not a serial killer rapist to a person who still might not have enough agency to ever say no.

Kind of lovely for the dude to spread rumors on the victim's behalf rather than letting her accuse Ansari herself imho.

This stuff happens in same-sex relationships too. Perhaps not as often but you shouldn't just shrug it off as an impossibility.

Maybe he is just completely unaware, and that's being very kind to him. But given that, at least in this account, he was in no way phased by the woman's reluctance or attempted escape I would say that it isn't the first time it's happened.

It's far from perfect TV and the shark-jumping toward the end was epic (hot takes, I know), but I haven't had cable in years and therefore haven't gotten the fix from syndication. Gonna binge it, why not, it's cold out

The thing is it's not like she didn't want to have sex with him, she just didn't want to have sex with him then. So he has the power of deciding whether a second date happens or not and that means she would feel like just being 'gently caress you, I'm out' takes that off the table.

This is pretty ludicrous. The power to decide whether to have a second date is not a 'power' one holds over another person.

For a choice to be coerced/pressured, the constraint/alternate option must be sufficiently damaging that the person has no choice but to comply. 'I won't go out with you again' is a perfectly reasonable option to 'you must have sex with me right now' because it doesn't even begin to constitute harm. It is about as harmful as It is also a legitimate use of 'power', because it is not a 'power', it is a basic freedom: everyone has the right to choose who they pursue or not pursue romantic and sexual relationships with (within legality).

Sorry but if you think 'this person is famous and I want a second date with them' constitutes enough pressure to even begin doubt someone's autonomy over their decisions, you might as well just admit to yourself that you think women should be legally considered children.

It had an episode where one of the doctors lost his hand in a helicopter accident, and then months later ended up being killed by a falling helicopter. This was years before the end.

I feel like society is losing sight of the fact that people can be, generally and mostly, "good people" and still do "bad things". People are complicated and even the best of them are often at most halfway in control of their actions. I've known a lot of people who "couldn't" resist yelling and saying hurtful things in anger, I'm sure we all have. It's been a really long time, more than a decade, since I let myself lose my temper and speak hurtfully in anger. You know how difficult that is? It's really, really difficult. Especially with my wife, who has anger issues and NVLD, it's incredibly difficult to stay calm and tell her I love her even when she's yelling at me. In my experience most people just "can't" stay calm like that.

I liked Aziz and this really sucks. Regardless of whether you want to be a rules lawyer about whether that story constituted rape or not, Aziz came off as massively desperate and pathetic in a really gross way. It's doubly gross that he does this stuff while trying to maintain his "brand" as a woke male feminist. I wonder how many else woke male celebrities are going to pull a Louis CK.
