Who kept giving Dennis Vitolo money to buy rides? I remeber the 34 was shared between a few drivers. When Coyne actually needed to do reasonably well he usually deputized Gualter Salles for the entry

De Ferran probably would have had a championship earlier if he wasn't stuck on the wrong tires between 1996-1999.

Basticle posted:I would also like to know the answer to this. I think I saw Diffey say on Twitter that he'd be doing IndyCar with a couple NASCAR races thrown in, so I'd take that to mean the full schedule. e- https://twitter.com/leighdiffey/status/944559161412550656 https://twitter.com/leighdiffey/status/944566883814166528 I can't see what else he'd be doing because none of the other stuff he lists would conflict with IndyCar. Dudley posted:Yeah, it's incredibly arrogant to just assume people will line up to give you a ride. I assumed SHR were going to run her in at least Daytona but clearly that's not happening. SHR is maxed out at 4 cars under the team cap and none of their drivers are rookies, so they can't field a fifth car for Daytona and put Danica in one of the first four. My thoughts around Ganassi included the fact they only have two full-time Cup cars (McMurray, Larson) and might be able to roll out a potentially competitive third car in a one-off if the price were right, while also putting her in a fast car in the month of May. I don't know if she's pricing herself too high for two races (more a commentary on the overall market than Danica as this is allegedly part of why Matt Kenseth has no full-time Cup ride) or still thinks her name is enough to get her sponsorship and doesn't realize her stock is probably the lowest it's ever been though, again, I'm surprised she's in this spot as my thinking was that it was waiting to be announced. wicka posted:In her most recent quotes she said something regarding which teams or team she might sign with, implying she thinks Ganassi or Penske are still interested. Which is...odd. If it's "team", it's Ganassi, because Penske was asked last year at Homestead and said it wasn't happening. CBJSprague24 fucked around with this message at 20:34 on Jan 11, 2018 |

Chip's the type of dude who denies everything until the day the press announcement goes out. He doesn't normally tip his hand or leak poo poo to reporters, hence the surprise Ed Jones signing and stuff. This was his quote from back in December: quote:"I was a little taken aback by how much was made of it," Ganassi said of the reaction to his discussions with the former IndyCar star. "Folks would like to see a lot of things. First and foremost, things like that have to make business sense to all the parties. I don't want to discourage the idea, but I think it's a small percentage of something happening. There's nothing imminent."

Sounds like Hinch is getting what he wanted to resign. More engineering help, more budget, better teammate (thats his buddy no less), manufacturer testing, etc. They are definitely putting together the pieces to try to consistently challenge for race-wins.

Jay Frye posted:“Well, part of this, again, whole process we talked about, we’ve come up with a five-year plan," Frye said on Tuesday. “The plan actually was activated and started in ’17 by freezing the current kits and then having the universal car starting in ’18, so this car will run in ’18, ’19, and ’20. End of ’18 we’ll get together with a collaboration of people and come up with what our goal or plan is for ’21 and beyond, so the plan is kind of a rolling five-year plan." So looks like we will have 3 years of the UAK18 before whatever might come next, with the wishlisting and such for the '21 car starting end of the year.

Oh I'm not saying she was a terrible Indycar driver back in the day, and I'm not hating on her for no reason, but it's been a long time since she's run in Indycar, and the years in NASCAR have not been kind. There are drivers who have come back to the series and done well of course, but I don't expect her to place better than she did seven years ago before she left, and her mounting frustrations and inability to stay competitive over there can't have done much for her confidence and capability. I'll be pleasantly surprised if she manages to pull off a top 10 or something, but that's not my expectation.
