Yup. After Casino Royale fixed how Bond interacts with and acts towards women, they threw it all down the shitter in Skyfall. It's not my only issue with the film, but it's a big one.

It's not just Bond. Off the top of my head, in Skyfall:

- In the beginning, Moneypenny misses the shot, hits Bond. M made the call when it was likely a pretty awful decision. At the end, Moneypenny goes from being a field agent to a man's secretary.

- Severine--in addition to the rather horrible shower invasion--appears to be strong and in control, but is actually being controlled, is summarily executed and all that happens is Bond makes a rather tasteless one-liner.

- M is shown to make decisions out of maternal feelings; she is not seen as a leader, but rather as a mother figure to both the protagonist and antagonist, who in turn can't make decisions disconnected from her gender.

- At the inquiry regarding MI6, the head of the inquiry is a woman and she goes on a tirade at M, and she gets put in her place by a man, essentially being told "shut up."

- M can't handle a gun, is unable to defend herself, and dies. Not long after, she's replaced by a man.

That whole script is terrible.

well I mean, I don't know how you missed it, it's pretty overt and the entire second half of the movie is basically "you know, this whole modern bond thing is okay but what if we brought back all the cheesiness and misogyny of the Connery era"

San Junipero's popularity IMO stems from a combination of not being as poo poo as the rest of that season and trading on the '80s / '90s nostalgia that most of its viewers undoubtedly have.

San Junipero works for people like my mom, who doesn't like TV that's not a multi-camera sitcom or a procedural. It's the Hallmark Hall of Fame episode of Black Mirror

I'm trying to remember what I think is a series... but may be a movie... or a videogame?

It's sci fi, with ships that jump, and said jumps are controlled by... a woman? who's in a pod a la Minority report; I remember her waking up suddenly and yelling "Jump!" and the ship jumping, but that's kind of all I have.

Did I just mix up a bunch of stuff and hallucinate it?

Early 90's? Yeah, sure. Mid-to-late? Nah.

When FXX put up EVERY. SIMPSONS. EVER. on their app the wife and I went through it from the start and began to lose interest in it right around '96 or so. If it had maintained the quality, maybe I would say it was the greatest show of the 90's overall. I still watched up until about '08, for some reason.

Even the last few seasons of Seinfeld were pretty drat good TV, even if they weren't as great as the previous seasons.

I'm not really arguing with you because tastes are hella subjective (and I know you aren't a huge fan of Seinfeld, which is fine).

But you did make me think that Seinfeld, with its focus on perceived microagressions and petty causes and issues, ended up predicting the '10s pretty well.

His standup is medicore-to-bad and easily the worst part of the first few seasons of the show. Thankfully, they realized that pretty early on.

You're not wrong. I would say that there are couple other good ones (On Her Majesty's Secret Service, Licence To Kill) but there's really only one or two truly good Bond films per Bond.

Maybe that's the secret, they should just cast a new Bond for every film and then they'll all be good! :v:

I still think it's creepy that he and Matt Lauer look like long-lost twins now.
