I've always liked them, even though I completely understand why some people really, really don't. They're fun to see live, if you're not in the "hate" camp and on the fence. You drink a bunch of beers and sing along to the extremely twee lyrics about pirates and old timee robbers and poo poo. It's cool.

They're good and The King is Dead drops the storytelling gimmick and is probably their best anyway.

I can understand why some people hate them. To this day there are a lot of songs Decemberists fans love that just bore the poo poo out of me, like Los Angeles I'm Yours. There's a lot of songs I like though.quote:At least for Chicago there is a regular pre-sale starting tomorrow with the code OREGON Looks like it must've gone onsale sometime overnight Here's hoping for the general onsale. I couldn't really get into the Decemberists until I heard The Mariner's Revenge Song, which is still pretty gimmicky but it's just a hell of a lot of fun. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Sw61oITuts

The first time was the Hazards of Love, actually, which they did straight through (before doing another hour-long set of their older songs). These days I kind of hate their lyrics, but I like their sound in general so I'm still on board for a new album.

I'm honestly surprised that anyone still cares about The Decemberists considering they were *the* band hipsters fawned over when I was in my teens when albums like Picaresque and The Crane Wife came out. I figured people would've moved on by now, but I guess not?

I personally passed on them because of a couple lame videos that I saw on MTV2. Like the one in the classroom comes to mind. But I did like The Crane Wife when that came out. And then whatever album came after that felt like a real try-hard follow up. I hate jam bands, but I like it when bands do 10 minute plus songs.

It blew up big enough that they toured for a year and a half when they were planning to do a short tour then take a long break. I prefer the old stuff myself but people have different opinions, you know?

I've seen them twice because it's such a fun show. Everyone knows the the lyrics so you just sing along and then you might get a giant whale on stage eating people while confetti sprays all over the crowd. They're more of a spring/summer band for me.

$117 for two tickets to see MGMT in Seattle. I don't understand how a band that salted the scorched remnants of their fan base still has enough following to warrant this.

Eh.. 50 or 60 a ticket for popular indie bands is basically the norm now. They still are huge in indie rock terms just from three songs off their first album.

I think I paid $14 for the ticket to see them at Doug Fir Lounge in ‘08. I balked at paying $80 for two tickets to go to Death Cab at the Crystal Ballroom in maybe ‘04. And I walked out of one of their shows early back when it was only $10 to see them, but that was at the Glass House in Pomona. I don’t see many shows anymore, unless the wife drags me to see Flogging Molly.
