I'm sure you can still go to your local parks just fine. I don't think police are going to put up barricades at every suburban park and turning away moms with baby strollers because the government is shut down. Everyone's going to be fine unless you were planning on walking into a national forest park or somewhere with horrible reception and gated entrances to do your Community Day hunting.

Just picked up the game. The OP says not to bother powering up stuff you catch before lv10, but I caught two 90+% mons - still don't bother with them?

Don’t know if it has been mentioned but the surfing pikachus seem to have a higher chance of being shiny - I ended up with two and my fiancée three, but some people were apparently swimming in shiny pikachus.

In general the CP of a pokemon matters much more than their IVs and the pokemon you're catching now are going to have a really low CP compared to the ones you'll catch when you're up past level 25. Stardust can be scarce; you'd be spending way too much to get a level 10 pokemon to max instead of just waiting and catching better and better ones as you go.

Niantic having what could be a good idea and fumbling the execution is basically thisgame.txt so I can understand why someone would assume the worst. i'm tired of having a million pikachus in inventory so like, niantic, how about squirtle squad next time?

Didn't see it mentioned, but if you evolve a Surfing Pikachu, it just gets regular Raichu moves, no Surf. I happened to catch a 93% so I figured I'd test it out.

Christ almighty I hope this is a run-up to more shiny releases and similar events. But with 6 or 12 hour windows. I spent half an hour trawling a high-spawn outdoor shopping mall (a dumb thing to have in goddamn Nebraska) to get a friend a single shiny Pika, because he was at work for the whole event. I don't mind doing it for him, just feel like Nainatic could have made it 12 hours and he could have trawled with me after work. Would have been more fun.

I spent the 3 hours at a park that is a high spawning Pikachu nest. Caught 106 pikas (could have been way more, but I was evolving and let my plus do most of the work). But also caught 13 shinies. During the evolve spree, gained a nice 700k in XP too. Now...what do I actually do with 13 shiny Pikas?

I had the worst luck, only caught a single shiny while the wife grabbed 4. On the other hand for the first time ever we ran into a group of people to take down a Kyogre raid so I finally have a legendary in my dex.
