Still haven't found a Feebas or Carvanha and I'm getting Whiscash and Crawdaunt by walking them. Yeah sometimes lotad just... show up. Corphish, Carvanha and Mudkip all popped up in nests around here or else I'd have maybe one of each. Feebas appear on the scanner every couple of days and the moment it happens while I'm actually awake I'm going for it.

Is there an actual biome map? I'd be interested to see what that looks like around where I live, since I can't tell.

It's pretty easy to garner what biome you're in based on starter and common spawns. For example, I live in a leaf/grass biome, so Hoppip, Bulbasaur, Nidoran, Seedot, Sunkurn, Eevee, Oddish, Bellsprout and 'mon like that are crazy common.

Crosspeice posted:Oh that's right, where the gently caress are Shroomish? I've seen zilch. nowhere, as far as I can tell. Lotad spawns in great numbers when it's raining and literally not at all when it isn't. Raining is the worst time to go out and try to use a phone outdoors, but I've gotten lucky when it's been sunny and Niantic thinks it's raining - up to 100 Lotad candy now.

Hell, in my town, PoGo still has phantom roads going through a coliseum that was built 10 years ago. I am not bullish on the accuracy of their biome maps.

Shroomish can nest, which is probably your best bet to catch them.

Water pokemon everywhere where I live. I'm currently walking my second Milotic to be. I have 2 genders of Sharpedo. I have both genders of Crawdaunt, though I was lucky that there was a mini nest nearby. Otherwise I would probably only be half way to the second. Lotad is really weird. If it rains it's fairly common, if it's dry then there are none in sight. I now have 80 Lotad candy. I also have both Breloom genders. I have a Shiftry, because Seedot was really common for a while. Somehow however they've gone completely extinct since a few weeks ago. The new monsters are nice, but my water biome will probably mean that no numels will ever spawn near me. Aron is semi rare, Whismur is everywhere and Balltoy is uncommon. I don't think I've seen any other of the new Pokemon yet. Just in case you hadn't heard yet, but all eggs now only contain Hoen pokemon. So get to hatching.

I somehow got a Numel despite it pouring rain both in the game and in real life, so there's always a chance! Poor little guy was hiding in a parking garage. Maybe the Lotads were picking on him. Saw a fair number of Whismurs and Nosepasses in North Seattle, a few Arons, that one damp Numel. Also hatched my first Feebas, bonus.

Is it better to power up and then evolve, or vice versa, or does it matter? I'm having trouble getting a grasp of how CP works in relation to IVs and levels and poo poo.

It doesn't matter. Use an IV calculator. I forget what the iphone one is called but for android Calcy IV is probably the best IV scanner.

I am using Calcy, that's why I'm thinking about evolving this little guy at all. So, powering up increases levels, better IVs -> more CP, higher level -> more CP, higher evolution -> more CP? Is that about the gist?

Remora posted:I am using Calcy, that's why I'm thinking about evolving this little guy at all. Generally yes but CP is highly species dependent, a Dragonite will get a much higher CP than a Raichu for example

Currently walking my Lotad, because that fucker is more rare than Snorlax. I really hope we get a double candy event soon, I need to turn in a poo poo ton of sloths.

Always evolve before powering up. And for multistage evolutions wait until you have ALL the candy (usually 124 since you get 1 free candy with each evolve) before evolving the first time. If you power up before evolving you may end up finding something better later and regret wasting all that dust. Evolution only consumes candy and generally candy is easier to come by than dust, which is the most limited resource in the game.

Yesterday was a travel day for me so I got to hit a *lot* of Pokestops at both airports, plus I got the "new Pokemon spawning" news alert in-game after landing and suddenly saw Numel and Whismur everywhere, and even a wild Camerupt when I was waiting for a bus. Also, two of my 5km eggs hatched and they were both Luvdisc.

I still use Nexus to check IVs and I haven't gotten any warning (granted I check maybe twice a month). I wonder if this is why I haven't gotten an EX raid invite.

Caught a Anorith down the street from me, guess they're crazy rare. Niantic needs to beef up the Gen3 spawns in general. I get that they need to balance between the three generations but the common crap is drowning out the more fun stuff.

Turn down the spheal and wurmple spawns. There's so many of them, even when the weather isn't raining.

I've seen two Aron, two Baltoy (wind-boosted) and a load of Whismur. My area has lots of water and rain is definitely not a biome where rock/ground/fire types have much business hanging out. These types have always been rare (except Sudowoodo) so it makes sense that the newly released ones are rare too.
