Sea of Thieves is a coming-soon action adventure, developed by Rare and published by Microsoft, where you play as a pirate, with three other friends (may or may not be increased, no official comment yet) to do piratey things. Open world and first person perspective, your group will take on the roles on a pirate ship such as steering, hoisting sails, navigation, firing cannons and other misc. tasks. Things to do in-game will involve quests, island exploring, diving and sea exploration, shoot yourself out of a cannon to land on another pirate ship player vs player combat with other pirate crews, and other to-be-announced features. Not technically an MMO, but you will be able to encounter other crews regularly in an open shared world. What platforms can I buy/play this on? Unfortunately, the Microsoft Store is the only place you can buy it online. It is not and will likely never be available on Steam. There is cross-play, and play-anywhere with Game Pass, meaning if you purchase it you can play it on either the Xbox One or PC if you have Windows 10. Oh, also, this is exclusive to Windows 10 and will not run on Windows 7 due to this requirement. You can (and probably should) get it via Amazon digital code for Xbox One (cross platform, the key you get will also let you install the Win10 version). What type of weapons can we use? You will have a few types of weapons for use during combat with other players, or with NPC's that you run into. They are:
Will there be more content other than sailing, fighting, quests and underwater/island exploration? Full feature list isn't out there and definitely not in the beta, but there's been a lot of hinting by the developers that what is in beta is limited and not full game content, and while I'd like to say there is much more to be had, I'm just as skeptical as you about limited content. What we can say for sure is that Microsoft wants to push their proprietary store hard to compete with Steam, so expect there to be future expansions or updates, likely as paid DLC just like everything else these days. Will there be sea monsters or scary things beneath the waves? What about land-based enemies? The developers have hinted heavily at sea monsters, giant and not-so-giant, including mention of a kraken. When or where you'll see that isn't known yet. You can run into other pirate crews on islands. You can steal their treasure, or even their ship. They can do the same to yours. There will also be PvE, skeletons and things like that, to deal with. The alpha/technical test was limited, what's being shown in the beta? There is a new weapon: a Sniper Rifle (essentially). If has a fancy name, Eye of something or other but I forget. e: Oh, "Eye of Reach". It's mentioned in the "equippable items" part of the patch notes. To access all your firearms you'll need to use the scroll wheel to cycle through using 1 or 2 to select will only get your pistol or blunderbuss depending on what you last used. Been watching this one while at work: https://www.twitch.tv/kinggothalion They just spent 20 minutes trying to find treasure on an island, for it to be the wrong island, and then they ran aground and their ship was filling with water. I can see myself doing that a lot tonight.

I spent 5 minutes convincing a guy who "can't find this drat chest dude where is it?!" that he was on completely the wrong island. Then they set sail and went straight off the map and got auto-sunk. Then they crashed head on into an island. Then I left.

Only if you signed up for the pioneer program before Dec 1st. You could just pre-order (if you can afford it) then cancel it after the beta if you're not impressed.

Really love the aesthetics and sailing feel of this game. There's just something about the artwork and the way the waves work and seeing a storm on the horizon. The "FPS" side of things is terrible and I really hope they add more content, but right now I am cautiously optimistic.

There's a terrible "work around" for the too early message people are getting on reddit: A better explanation for those who pre-ordered and cannot get in due too early bug.
This should work fine because you aren't billed for Microsoft Store pre-orders until release date, so there's no worry about double-billing, and Amazon's delivery is immediate from what people are posting. That's if you really want in right now and not later, though. Also that should 'fix' the same bug with the Xbox version.

The way I fixed it on PC. installed the Xbox insider hub. Downloaded the game (from microsoft store, poo poo was broke). Uninstalled game. Uninstalled Xbox insider hub. Reinstalled Hub. Reinstalled game. Works.... no clue why but it works.

So as an experiment I wanted to see what playing with random pubbies was like. First ship had a guy who was adamant about driving the ship, constantly went off course to chase other pirates, and would hop off the wheel to try to fire cannons at the other ships which resulted in two ships being sunk from running aground. I had to "join" the beta through the Xbox Insider Hub desktop app, but it's working now. Installing. Will promptly be removing the app though once I don't need it though. Find the cool dude that gives treasure quests, jump on any random ship nearby (there'll always be at least one), go to the map on your second deck, pick a mission, then press E to pull up your treasure map and compare it to the map table to find out where it is alternatively a lot of islands you randomly go to tend to have a chest hidden somewhere (also shipwrecks) Edit: edit: nevermind GODDAMN FOOL fucked around with this message at 04:45 on Jan 25, 2018 |
