Konami really wants to make money off games now that their Pachinko income has permanently tanked, so I wouldn't give up hope just yet. The real decider for if they keep rereleasing old games is whether or not they can make a sustainable cash cow out of Metal Gear Survival's microtransactions.

Radiant Historia is a really good game that moves at a glacial pace. That's fine for what it is, it's a slow burn but it leaves you very invested in all the principle characters, and they actually put their cast to use for the most part. The main character is the main draw though, it's really nice to see a JRPG hero who is a confident, competent guy dealing with an incredibly overwhelming situation.

I like how Stocke is initially cold like most jRPG edgy characters but after what happens in the prologue you quickly find out that he does care and he is really happy when people don't die.

Didn't see anybody mention it in here but Nintendo announced the launch date and pricing for their Switch Online service. 20 bucks a year or 4 dollars a month, online play and free old games included. The details on what games and how that will work still not out there but at least there's a date.

I'm gonna give a shout-out to Night in the Woods, it's a take your time kind of game but it's worth the trip. I'm also very hyped for Radient Historia, I loved that game and I've got it pre-ordered already as a collector edition

That's not really true, Konami is a huge international player in the amusement business and their supposed doubling-down on pachinko is really them preparing for their conversion into slot dens - they own a shitload of real estate and control a shitload of machines and they more than anyone are primed to start making a lot of money from the changes in gambling laws.

Also pachislot is still insanely popular. Idk legally what's changing but those pachihalls are full before they open every day of the week. You have to pull a number and they page you like a restaurant when a slot is open for you to enter.

Pachinko's a dying industry because they're seen primarily as an old-peoples game and the audience is literally dying off but if you're a top player like Konami then there's still a lot of money in them, it's all the lesser-tier players that are hosed because they don't own the venues and are at the mercy of the people leasing the machines. Konami has all sorts of rackets, like gyms/"health clubs" that sell all sorts of quack energy drinks and supplements and poo poo.

I'm also not seeing the weird gamer fantasy of Konami 'crawling back' to games, they've released some zero effort emulated stuff on Wii U VC, the inevitable yearly update to PES and Survive is out soon which is a cheap asset cash in and, uh, that's it.

It's not so much seen as they're coming back to making games as rifling through their back catalogue and available assets/properties for a quick buck.

Since a big part of pachinko was the reward system and most mobile F2P/grind games give you all manner of prizes I can presume the younger generations get their fixes from their phones.

Let's not forget Bomberman R, which they released quite half-formed but have actually continually updated throughout the year when they realized it actually sold insanely well (thanks to being on switch when it had no games). I'm still a bit baffled by that one, I would've totally expected them to just let it make its money and then die.

I could see them making a greasy comeback, for sure. They've got 40 years of gaming legacy that, eventually, they're going to wanna use and profit off of Switch would be the time, reminding us that dedicated gaming platforms are not dead

Some challenges, some shrines, some dungeons. Lots of good armor pieces with unique effects. Sonic is a really good classic Sonic game, if you like classic Sonic games.
