I can't really fathom this attitude, Prey seems bursting with "soul" as it were. What did you find so bland about it? It's probably the most cohesive attempt at a System Shock game since, well, System Shock -- it's basically Bioshock but way better. I mean, the opening sequence in and of itself is just such a cool little mind twist scenario.

The gameplay is just boring. Wander around picking up keycards, raiding cupboards, reading emails and listening to audiologs. A bunch of backtracking involved as well.

I've played a billion identical games and I just can't bring myself to care about it anymore.

Please tell me about those identical games because I’d like to play them

I got like 2/3rds of the way through Silent Hill 3 and found the second puzzle in the game. a majority of this game is just finding keys basically, i miss having to get a notebook out and puzzle out weird rhyme hints or do math to figure out how to unlock a door.

Well let me tell you about System Shock 2 then it's gonna blow your mind.

After that I'm kinda out. Bloodlines I guess, but that feels different to me since everything is more instanced.

Bioshocks, Deus Ex, Alien Isolation, Stalker (kind of), Dead Space and Dishonored (it's even the same dev).

It was actually the last game of my "Good Games from 2017 That I Want To Play" project.

I liked all of the major stuff other than Nier A (did one playthrough and had enough, wasn't for me), Night in The Woods (looked kind of cool but it was far too long and boring) and Prey.

E: oh yeah, PUBG as well. poo poo is loving terrible

saying that Prey is too much like Deus Ex and System Shock is hilarious to me. Considering Harvey Smith, the co-founder of Arkane, wrote the former and was lead QA for the latter...like, of course it has those fingerprints all over it. Prey's more of System Shock though with its "one big metroidvania hub" setting and environmental side stories.

You've got guts! Come to my village, I'll buy you lunch.

I'm torn because on the one hand "deterministic X-Com with time rewinding" is pretty close to my dream game but on the other hand any X-Com-like game needs to be very deft at balancing the core gameplay loop with the big picture aspect of the game, and that was by far Heat Signature's greatest weakness.

Why is it a problem that MAME was used? Speed runners use emulators with a heavy use of save states all of the time, not to mention exploits and glitches. All of the top Super Mario speed runs for example are with exploits.

Speedruns records are only accepted on true hardware generally.
