Also Roberts, can you design a ship that could be used for broadcasting media? I want to be a mass media creator in SC and alongside my vast porn empire I would like to have a giant ship that acts as a printing press, recording studio as well as a broadcasting station for my media. I'll definitely need to buy my own mocap setup.

Yeah that's just a news van. I'm talking about the capital ship all the News Vans report to, which then edits + broadcasts the footage across the universe. Maybe this is okay for some plebe who wants to be a news anchor or freelance journo but I want to be the Rupert Murdoch of space.

The alien species' design is unimaginative as hell. Similar lizardy face on most of them.

Even Star Trek had more going on and they basically just glued some poo poo on people's foreheads.

And of course two legs and two arms on everyone.

Yeah the game isn't real so no point arguing, but I'm pretty sure griefers would just find other creative ways to have fun with this. Whether goonswarm chain vehicle theft to keep it from ever disappearing or kamikazing those vehicles as giant missles at random spaceports or other ships since they have no value after theft.

You've done well, kiddo.
What even is Squadron 42? Is that a separate game from SC? Why are they trying to build 2 similar games when they can't even build 1?

Or was this supposed to be a thing where they release SQ42 to appease backers and then quietly flee the country never to mention SC ever again?

SC is a cash cow that produces infinite money by selling jpegs. SQ42 is an excuse for Christ to play Hollywood director again. No games are being made

I think Squadron 42 was supposed to be a smaller, single player version of SC (or at least using the SC tech for its core) to placate the backers while Croberts funnelled the rest of the money out of the project and hosed off finished SC. I'm guessing it was from a more optimistic time where it looked like they'd at least have some sort of space sim done before 2020.

I'd be interested in seeing this, since it seems like stealing ships was part of the fantasy (but there won't be GRIEFERS just PIRATES). Just not enough to go read posts by actual Star Citizen believers. I'm dumb enough as it is and don't want to lose too many brain cells.

Probably not considering SC and I think Pathfinder Online were the crowd funding whale games that had "No goons allowed" posts after saying their games were for anyone who wanted to do anything.

I think the PFO guy even mentioned Goonswarm by name.

Covering the insanity that is SC at this point would take some serious effin effort. Obviously no game journalist wants to touch it with a ten foot pole since that would require a bit more work than just regurgitating a press release.

I've seen this stupid work-around-the-clock-in-different-time-zones thing mentioned a bunch of times itt. Was this actually a thing that Croberts was pushing? Like why does it matter that they are in different time zones? It sounds cool that they are literally working around the clock, but they are still using the same number of man-hours compared to if they put every one in the same time zone? Are SC backers actually this stupid?

Not sure about coding or game making, but I work in Customer Support
And we do cs support 24/7, where our US guys take over from us, and we take over from them.

And accessing the US databases are a loving pain, and this is just limited customer data.
I would assume trying to access gigabits of textures and game data 10k miles away would be a nightmare

If they're sensible, they'd be working on individual modules with minimal crossover so such large transfers wouldn't be necessary.

They're not really making anything, so they can freely shift between "2 studios in 2 timezones means 24/7 work," or "The two locations are doing entirely separate things. US offices are working on the Star Citizen PU, and the UK location is working on mocap and Squadron 42."

e: don't know much about game development, but I assume geography doesn't matter, especially when you are working on a 0.5 billion loving dollar budget. programmers develop using temporary art all the time and drag&drop the final art in at the end. the amount of data they would have to regularly exchange between two offices is probably pretty small.

IRC they opened the other offices as a tax scam/government incentive scam. Germany and the UK are hungry for game companies settling there and offer all kinds of funding if you just plop down an office.

(I guess you could achieve some kind of positive effect from working around the clock because, realistically, only a limited number of people can work on one thing at the same time before the efficiency goes down the drain. If you implement "chain working", you can get in more manhours on that one specific thing. But that's a level of optimization/sophistication that goes light years beyond what those clowns are even capable of. I don't know of any real, working global company (like Siemens or Intel) who bothers with that for development. It's too much trouble and too hard to get working
