Ron MacLean once badmouthed Alex Burrows and was cursed to spend an eternity with Don Cherry. I'd be very careful what you say.

Wow, the Pens/Knights game was awesome. It was deafeningly loud during the Fleury tribute. They were all set to drop the puck for like two minutes until it finally calmed down. It was even louder when Ryan Shazier stood up during his shoutout.

Nolan Patrick seems to finally be in form. I'm sure getting to 2C and further away from surgery both helpedCharlie O'Connor posted:The biggest difference between Patrick then versus Patrick now is skating speed. In the early season, Patrick's gears seemed perpetually in neutral; there was no burst in his game, no way for him to gain separation from opposing defenders. Now, he's flying through the middle of the ice and turning into a controlled entry machine. With that increase in speed has come more assertiveness in the offensive zone as well, making him a perfect complement to the pass-first Voracek. At 5-on-5 last night, Patrick generated a whopping four high-danger scoring chances, while no other Flyers' player created more than one.

I watched that game, dreamt the goal was overturned and the CBJ won in OT, woke up, and drove 30 minutes through White Death to get to work, so I'm a little on edge, but I literally don't know what the gently caress to think about the CBJ. They've played alright but couldn't score to save their lives, then they did last night when it was badly needed, and then pissed it away (though, maybe it's the universe evening out because there were 2-3 games they shouldn't have gotten a point and won earlier this year). And through it all, after losing the cushion they built up by having the bye, only playing a spotty schedule in January at times (like 3 games in 14 days in one stretch), and going 0-3-1 since the All-Star break that they've only lost two spots in the division and are still in a playoff spot. Plus, the PP's at like 30% since the start of January but the PK might as well have move over to allow them to score to allow extra time to try and get it back and .

If they're offered one, they can be suspended as long as the league sees fit regardless of whether it ends up being held in person or over the phone.

I guess maybe another part of it is the last two years we've had rookies stepping in right away as full-blown stars competing with each other in Matthews v Laine and McDavid v Eichel. I think I might have subconsciously expected the first and second overall picks to be immediate impact players (I occasionally forget about Nico too) and that's usually never the case, we've just been spoiled recently. Generally it's like what's happening this year where the star rookies are all older/had an extra year or two of development.

Nolan fell into Philadelphia's lap and Ron still refused to just stick him right at the top of the team and let him run poo poo. Nolan and Nico also aren't the 2nd Coming Of Jesus that McDavid, et al have been, but I also don't think New Jersey or Philadelphia are expecting them to be that, either. Matthews and McDavid are astounding one-in-a-generation talents. Nolan and Nico aren't that, but they're still drat good high 1st round picks and will likely both pan out as such as the years go on.

It's a joke he didn't get a 5 in game (they gave him a double minor). Larsen played 26 games as a Canucks over one season and otherwise made a neglible impact on the team*, I very much doubt that Burrows remembers the hit Hall made on him let alone sought retribution a year later for it. It was more likely just a heat of the moment thing between two guys who have a reputation for beaking on the ice and Burrows lost it because he's an idiot like that. *still cost a 5th round pick lol

I don't think he was seeking retribution, but players definitely remember things like that when it happens to them. See: Palmieri's reaction to Gudas flattening him. It's such a small league that players get reps super fast. It is kinda funny that 3 players in like a span of a month are about to be suspended for hits on Devils (Gudas, Marchand, Burrows). It's like Stevens is being exorcised (although I guess they wouldn't be suspended if that were the case). edit: Actually Gudas didn't get suspended, whoops T-Bone fucked around with this message at 20:03 on Feb 7, 2018 |

Yeah, Nico isn't a world-beater, but it's encouraging to see the rookie trio of Bratt, Butcher and Nico panning out so well. All could easily hit 50 points... which doesn't sound like much, except when you consider that just a few seasons ago Henrique led the team in scoring with a whopping 43 points on the season.
