My problem with submissions in WWE is that if a babyface taps out, it generally makes them look bad (and creative will go out of their way to reflect that in the future), unless the person who applies the finisher is a submission specialist. I would prefer the babyface to pass out over tapping out. It essentially serves the same purpose but also keeps the babyface looking somewhat strong.

All kinds of shows are called live and aren't actually live or are full of prerecorded segments, WWE might as well get in on the fun imo #futureofbrandingorsomeshit

(Probably because WWE do it so rarely.) I think it was that it was just so sudden. From what I recall, she passed out pretty quickly in the hold rather than doing the big drawn out babyface spot. Maybe I'm misremembering, but I do remember it just not coming off super exciting when it happened.

well the problem was that bayley didn't pass out irl. you could tell it was one of those matches "for the show" instead of real which doesn't usually happen in big matches or title matches.

I was just watching the tag team Elimination Chamber from right before he went out last night and thinking about how great of a team Cesaro & Kidd were. Their offense was incredibly crisp and layered. While I'm glad he's alive, it blows that we didn't get to see more of that team.

I still remember the meet and greet before Wrestlemania 29, before Cesaro and Kidd were actually a team. Cesaro was asked who he thought the most underrated person in WWE was. He just silently pointed up to Kidd in a far bleacher, signing autographs for a crowd of few

Submission finishes haven't been done particularly well in the WWE for a long rear end time. There's a mentality to them separate from the match itself, and there's nothing more frustrating to me than an early tap out/pass out spot. If they were done better, there's a chance the crowd would react differently to them.

I had no idea how great submission finishes could be until I watched the Naito/Tanahashi matches from last year.

VJeff posted:I had no idea how great submission finishes could be until I watched the Naito/Tanahashi matches from last year. Submission finishes are great when done correctly. The problem is that WWE rarely (if ever) follows through on them correctly. Usually what ends up happening is the face or heel who taps out ends up falling down the card, and the audience having no reason to continue investing in them as a result, unless said face or heel gets comeuppance on the person who tapped them out. And the window of opportunity for that is really small. Pretty much (at least in my eyes), if you tap out in WWE and are a babyface, it means WWE has no confidence in you (and as a result, its pretty much a signal to the audience that they should stop being invested in that worker). And tapping out as a babyface is significantly more damaging to your WWE career than it is as a heel. At least in modern day WWE. That's why I get behind the notion that babyfaces should be passing out instead of tapping out, as it doesn't damage the babyface nearly as much, while still drawing massive heat to the heel. Although not so much on the women’s side. They don’t really treat tapping out as anything of particular note with them.

Everything that happened to Hideo Itami sucks but I also can't pretend like he should be getting pushed more than he is, he just kinda sucks now. His matches, his promos, his look, it's all just bad. I can't believe how far he fell from that Wrestlemania Andre battle royal. Injuries are a bitch.

Watched Enzo & Cass w/Carmella vs Blake & Murphy from NXT Unstoppable today. Part of the WWE Network Alexa Bliss Collection. The match where Alexa runs in and turns heel and starts the journey to what we have now. Crazy how everyone's careers turned out. Carmella the hype girl has the MITB and Alexa is the Raw kingpin. The others well....

one of the better WWE finishes of the last few years was the 4 Horsewomen four-way in NXT where Sasha put Charlotte in the Banks Statement for so long that she was able to get a pin with ease because Charlotte was too tired from the submission to kick out it was effective, simple and very clever, and of course it's never been done again!

The 205 Live brackets: https://www.bracketsninja.com/brackets/single/30362 My one and only hint about the final "outsider" in the tournament. It is someone who has never wrestled on the main roster before. The remaining three 205ers who haven't wrestled yet and will do in 2 weeks are Ariya, Jack Gallagher and Mustafa Ali.

Just because two matches happened next to each other doesn't mean they're next to each other on the bracket. They didn't release a bracket for the US Title Tournament for a week or so and the fact that they haven't released it for this means where each match is on the bracket is probably still in flux.

Hard to see WWE getting on board with someone getting a post-submission pin without hitting another big move though. But hey, make it a brutal long fight with both people exhausted, one person sinks in their submission for a long time but the opponent doesn't tap and they break the hold because they're too tired to maintain it, and then the person applying the submission just flops a hand over the other person for a pin. Can't make a finish that keeps both people looking strong much better than that.

Rousey being a McMahon ego play is about the least shocking story I can imagine, that poo poo is bred into the family and reinforced by a lifetime of encouragement. Like, Shane probably has the least ego of the family and he still went out to try to be a huge business success on his own to prove how good he is. it'll be fun to see the next generation of Mcmahons and Helmsleys come along and find out which ones dive deep into the wrestliing business and make ego plays 20 or so years from now.
