Even if it doesn't matter much in the end it just feels kinda dumb, like the devs want to make sure you know that despite being able to pick any job, the dudes are inherently better at hitting things and the women are inherently better at casting magic.

Look I get that FF12 is a divisive game but it gave us the Mega64 sketch with the skinny dude running around dressed as Vaan yelling "I'm Captain Basch!" and as far as I am concerned that makes it worth it. Also the music is fantastic, albeit in a totally different way from the fantastic music in 13.

Fran is my favorite FF12 character because of everything already said and especially the fact that she's the elder wisewoman of the party. It's weird that it never gets mentioned but she knows everything about everything everywhere and can read ancient scripts and speak multiple languages and operate flying motorcycles and airships and do magic etc etc etc. She's an independent capable woman in the unfortunate state of having an outfit designed by an FF designer. Heck, she only needs help once in the entire game and it's near the end and the person who saves her is her partner so I wouldn't even call that a damsel in distress moment. I really wish they had done more with her background though. The Viera village section is really cool but I wish we had a little more background on her and Balthier. I know that it was intentionally vague but it would've been nice to have a little more info on how they met or something. And yes the faux-Icelandic accent is the cherry on top. Every other stupid piece of Western trash ALWAYS follows the "British = Foreign" rule and it was really cool to hear a foreign/alien accent that was not Londoner. It really added a lot to her mystique and I loved it. Her voice actress did a good job with it too considering there were a few really bad lines she had to deliver. Fran is cool because her body language and attitude shows that that's how she dresses and she doesn't care about your opinions or feelings. As opposed to say Ivy from Soul Calibur, whose body language says "I exist to elicit sexual responses" despite them both wearing almost the same thing.

Yeah, Fran's design is certainly not intentionally empowering or w/e but the way they handled her character specifically suits it, from what I remember. Not unlike Bayonetta in that she just gives a vibe of being comfortable in her own skin/showing so much skin and giving no fucks about it. I mean it's still a race of fantasy Playboy bunnies but Fran seems to be handled p well
