The game is currently #2 on global top sellers on Steam, it will be interesting to see how long it stays there after release.

I will add some people's impressions to the OP, whether they are positive or negative. I am personally keeping up my own hope that it's not all bad. If the combat is actually like Chivalry, it's a day one purchase for me. Chiv combat in an RPG would be like a dream come true. I highly doubt that's the case, though. e: imagine looking at a historical game set in 15th-century Bohemia and complaining about the lack of racial diversity, how far gone you would have to be for that. It's like a parody. If the lead dev is an rear end in a top hat during interviews or something, that's fair enough, but this particular complaint is nonsense. 'actual person with historical knowledge'...? i'm sceptical without something a little more authoritative; there were huge barriers to population mobility back then, and even today the czech republic is rather homogeneously white. i wouldn't be surprised if the trading hubs were a little more diverse but outside of that i would think visible ethnic minorities would be few and far between.

Without some genomics data from 15th century graves in the region, it's pretty hypothetical really. History is an incomplete record of reality, that's why archeology and DNA samples are so important in trying to understand how things were. Some historian says one thing, another says differently. I can not estimate who is right or wrong in such a debate. If you feel you know better about topic A, B or C, good for you. The more I learn the more I understand how little I know.

I don't think anyone will dispute the fact that there were traders from all over the known world in major European cities. I was under the impression that people were complaining that random-rear end villages didn't have black people in them. That's stupid. I'm very sceptical as to this claim of Europe in 1400 outside of the Iberian peninsula and the Balkans being 5% black (what? did they mean North African?) and 5% Middle Eastern. And the barrier here isn't 'race', which didn't exist yet as such, but religion. Religious conformity was strictly enforced at the time, and people coming in from outside cultures would usually be quickly absorbed by the local population instead of being allowed to form minority communities. If you saw them or their descendants in Europe at any given point in time, they likely would be indistinguishable from the natives other than a slightly darker complexion, if even that. On the other hand, that period in time did coincide almost exactly with the arrival of the Roma in the area, so if that is reflected in the game somehow it could be interesting.

At some point in the video the player serves 5 days in jail, which is 2 exciting minutes of looking at a screen counter that says "You're serving jail time, <x> days". This is a game made by the same people who make "total realism" mods.

It looks like it's a slightly more complicated version of Mount and Blade's Simon Says swordfights so god knows. I'm probably going to pick this up one steam, play it for an hour and a half, and then decide if I want to refund it. Thank God they implemented that system. E. Watching a streamer for a bit, the story and VA seems good but mechanically the game is kind of a mess. Horses handle like tanks, and the UI is very strange. The dude I was watching had to go through trial and error to figure out that the reason why his health was dropping was because he was bleeding to death, since it isn't easily shown on the UI like it should be. Didn't see any combat but the guy said it was kind of flimsy so we will see I guess. Questing is a bit of a mess too, the area that you are given to search in is huge, and at least from the quest I saw the NPCs are no help. They also have that thing where everyone in the same area will have the exact same conversation with you, which is jarring. Kind of surprised to see this clusterfuck being picked up like it has been, I first learned about it while fixing my Nvidia drivers from an ad they had there, which is usually reserved for AAA games CuddleCryptid fucked around with this message at 11:18 on Feb 12, 2018 |

Also, either they're trying to simulate ye olde english standards or they put like zero effort into grammar checking their game. I'm going with the latter since some of those words wouldn't make sense even if you were trying to account for some sort of historical language drift occurring over time. Having the books in the old language is not immersion. It’s the same with flight sim nerds who want actual language cockpits and russian/chinese/french text on the gauge labels. It’s not realistic. A pilot sitting in the cockpit of a Mig29 isn’t gonna go ”poo poo I can’t read russian”. Same way, the player character in Bohemia should understand the people and language around him, ie you should understand.
