The really cool thing here is that if she gets cut, that she'll be in a strong position to argue that she was fired for attempting to unionize, and that will put the UFC in a really tough legal position, especially if the union succeeds. Her record (assuming a loss to Ladd) is bad enough that the UFC will be able to try the "uhhh we would have fired her anyway and the union thing is just a coincidence" but not so bad that they'd for sure win in court, as the UFC hasn't walked many fighters for going WWL. Basically only fighters who demand more money than they're worth, like Bendo, or who nobody would pay to watch, like Jared Rosholt. They wouldn't cut a "I got my ear kicked off in a brawl and ran around the ring covered in blood screaming at the crowd in Spanish and starting huge chants" fighter who makes like 15/15 for going WWL.

I know that the US doesn't give a poo poo about workers rights, and that the UFC could cut her and get away with it, but that wouldn't stop her from litigating over it. Much of this is about what ends up in front of judges where.

If a fighter were released in a circumstance inconsistent with those in which other fighters were released, it would give that fighter a chance to lawyer up and argue it in front of a judge. And this whole thing over the last 3 years has been about what gets taken to a judge. Rory and Mousasi aren't the same because they elected to exercise their free market rights. The only winning fighter I can think of who was released like that without some kind of free market situation is Jared Rosholt.

the same reason this is dangerous for her career is precisely why it's needed, obviously. it's why strikes exist; hopefully she can get some disgruntled big names on board (woodley and miocic)?

Would it be more effective to sue to certify that they're employees and not contractors first? The first thing the article says is that they can't unionize because they're considered freelance contractors. Even though the UFC meets most of the conditions of employment, i.e. they're told when and where to show up to work, have uniforms (now), must submit to random drug tests when 'off the clock' at the UFC's behalf.

He also got badly outstruck by Court McGee. gently caress, that Romero rematch is a really interesting one. Their first fight was weird. Neither could get that much done, but Whittaker did an amazing job of nullifying most of Romero's offence, which is a feat in its own right.

I feel like Rockhold's unusually large frame for middleweight helps him quite a bit and he'll be leaving that at the wayside with a move to 205.

weidman is really good probably. he beat vitor while vitor was still hardly ever losing, beat silva twice even if the 2nd one was kind of a freak ending etc. so hes reached some real heights
