Pokkas greatest achievement so far has been being traded for nick Leddy. He was a once promising prospect that started falling off while with the isles, and I hadn't heard his name since he was traded from them so chances are he hasn't picked his game up much since

A 4th rounder is pretty good for a guy who’ll be 27 this year and has a ceiling of 4th line winger, for sure. Leafs were over a barrel a bit with his out clause and their roster/contract crunch, getting anything is a win.

We’ll see, he really tore it up but he’s had limited action and he wasn’t particularly impressive last year. I’m bullish on the guy but yeah, he has tools.

Dido is a guy who I learned of when looking at who Gaborik was replacing in the lineup. He made the NHL last year at age 27, and has ten points this year, four of them on the power play.

Looks like he got replaced by Zombie Marian Gaborik!

Not so much grow but I'd love to see him play in the NHL for any length of time without his head exploding.

I remember when Dido was a Leafs fan favourite prospect, years and years ago. Good on him for recovering and making it after breaking his thigh early on in junior.

Yeah, when I saw the trade I assumed he would ride the press box or linger on the bottom six. Guess he's a first liner now! Hooray Ottawa!

I know the initial shine has worn off of him, but what would Pens fans think of Girgensons as a pickup? It's not like Buffalo has done poo poo with him. Probably low cost, too.

Just from a quick glance at his stats he looks like he'd be worth rolling the dice on. Getting him out of Buffalo would probably give him a boost all by itself and he only needs to play 4C since Pens management claims to be happy to keep Sheahan as 3C. His faceoff stats are kind of terrible and he's going to be taking a lot of penalty kill faceoffs if he plays for the Penguins since Crosby and Malkin don't kill penalties. Being able to roll 4 lines would definitely outweigh that though, since they're not doing that now and it really hurts them IMO.

so who is in charge of re-hiring Benning - Linden? the Aquilinis? All of them? The Canucksarmy.com comments sections? (seriously, I don't know how this works). Benning is the safe option because Boeser jerseys are selling and Vanek looks like a smart trade (even though Vanek is essentially the one time you buy carrot cake every ten times you try it and it's actually not bad so everyone keeps buying it because, hey, that one time)

If they don't trade Gudbranson and all this talk of signing him isn't terrible GM fake news to clumsily hype a lovely young player with ~*grit*~, I might just be done with this team.

Yeah they're doing pretty well (12 in GF), but they could stand to add one more top six forward. I liked the Henrique trade and they absolutely needed another top 4 dman but it would be nice still to have him. MoJo and Palmieri being out for huge stretches hasn't helped.

Going forward a lot of it depends on the development of Hischier/Bratt/Zacha/McLeod/Quenneville (and Schneider not being dead).

Brodeurs Nanny

Hischier's been a beast since the ASG break ended and he's finally getting rewarded on the scoresheet for it. Love this kid, should put up 50-60 points this year and I can pencil him in as a first-line center for the foreseeable future.

As for the Devils, I think if they play their cards right and spend their money wisely, they could make a big jump next season.

Five thoughts:

1) Gaborik scored a goal and an assist in his debut for the Senators - looks like he can bring some scoring depth to a team in dire need of it. They've definitely put some guys on the first line who can't keep up, but Gaborik brings some skills. He has a lot of wear and tear, but he'll have a long summer to get some rest.

2) Phaneuf scored the Kings' only goal in his debut tonight, but scoring a goal doesn't seem that impressive when Ryan Reaves does it first.

3) Rangers took 50 shots tonight and got shutout. That was Halak's first shutout of the year. Surprisingly, he has 42 career shutouts.

4) Neal Pionk led the Rangers with 23:04 TOI tonight. It's not like AV has much of a choice but to give rookies ice time, but that's more than Skjei and Holden.

5) Nick Holden was on the ice for all three goals against. While Nash and Grabner are boosting their trade value, this guy is reminding people that he's only worth a mid-round pick, or maybe a prospect with a third-pairing ceiling and AHL floor.

Skjei has had a pretty inconsistent sophmore season in general. I think he'll bounce back

Can't remember Holden being responsible for any of the goals against

Skjei has moved from a sheltered role on a good team to a tougher role on a not-so-good team. He still looks good, but he also hasn't been able to use his skating to join the rush as much simply because the forwards have struggled to enter the zone regularly. It's going to be tougher as he takes on tougher defensive assignments (especially if/when McDonagh is traded) but I think he'll also benefit greatly from these young, mobile defensemen that are poised to replace the ancient statues which patrol the Rangers blueline.

I don't think Holden was directly responsible for any of the Rangers goals tonight, but he didn't look very good.

Ville Pokka is as generic as a hockey player can be. He's like the starting point of a create-a-player character with all stats in the middle of the bar. He doesn't have any glaring weaknesses as a player but he sure as hell doesn't have any strenghts.

I'd imagine he'd do just fine if you plug him into your team's third pair.
