i feel like ive definitely read in the nyt and similar elite liberal media these sorts of characterizations that getting fat with age is inevitable rather than a product of the fact that society (especially the culture in high-pressure prestige jobs like lawyers and financial types and media people that make up the audience of the nyt) require you to discard your health for your job and make it basically impossible to have a job and family responsibilities (that in a sane society would have some sort of social safety net helping you) and also have time and energy to work out and eat healthily

Nebakenezzer posted:Watch us - The NYT, probably quote:Transportation economists have long sought to make drivers pay their fair share without raising the federal gas tax—a political nonstarter. In recent decades, a broad swath of experts has settled on an idea with the potential to fix the three big problems that come with cars: road damage, congestion, and pollution. The answer? Charge ‘em by the mile. The only reason "make every road a toll-road" isn't considered a non-starter is because nobody has been stupid enough to try it.

It's also freight trucks and weather that cause 99% of road damage, not commuters or minivans.

yes what we need is another lovely thing to worry about during commute other than gas, parking, etc. as always silicon valley coming up with the common sense solutions that make life easier for eevryone

every time i visited my grandma in florida (yeah i know) the past few years i would lol because its basically impossible to get east-west across the state without getting on a toll road
