Vivi ate a tide pod because her careless mother left them out, back when she was a wee pup. Thankfully our vet is awesome and answers the emergency line. She was fine. So, the wife and I went to a local shelter having a monthly 'open house'. We're considering getting a playmate / sister for vivi. Met this good girl Ellie : Unfortunately, the geezers at the rescue were extremely unhelpful and discouraging. We went and got Vivi and brought her to have a meet. Simple things like "uh hey can we have Ellie and Vivi play for a few minutes (very supervised) in an area and see how they get along?" was almost too inconvenient a request for them. It bummed me out because they're doing these dogs a disservice by being so extremely difficult to work with. Anyways : Ellie was great when we met her alone. Mostly curious of smells and whatnot (she's 1-2 years old and they don't know much else about her). They couldn't even tell us how she is with other dogs at all. YOU HAVE A DOZEN DOGS HERE YOU'VE HAD ELLIE FOR LIKE 2 WEEKS YOU HAVEN'T SAID HEY LETS HAVE HER HANG OUT WITH ANOTHER DOG AT ALL? ... so we got them to play and Ellie was just scared of Vivi. She did nothing but hide behind us when Vivi tried to play with her. That was basically the final straw for the geezer helping us to try even harder to shoo us away.

Man, that’s awful. Like I get most rescues are run with volunteers but if you can’t even be assed to actually help place your dogs than why bother even volunteering. I’m sorry you lost out on a chance to maybe pick up a playmate, Ellie looks like a good girl. In sort of related news, my girlfriend and I have been wanting to volunteer with a rescue for a while but decided that with our current lifestyle with includes some medical challenges we just don’t have the time to properly commit. In lieu of that though we’re going to be fostering a puppy soon! His name is William and he’s a 4 month old lab mix. We’ll only have him for a week or so while his potential adopter prepares for him, but we’ll be involved in the meet and greet with him and his other dog.

Goober Peas posted:wtf - that's not something that just accidentally shows up in a food factory! Apparently, it is! Newsweek posted:Some pet food companies buy raw goods from rendering facilities that process animals euthanized at animal shelters. That means that some pet food is made from a variety of meats that humans wouldn’t eat, including diseased livestock and cats and dogs containing lethal doses of sodium pentobarbital. In other words, the body of a stray dog killed in a shelter may be ground up into dog food. So yeah, that's horrifying.
