I think he played a little bit with Buchnevich a couple of years ago, yeah. The Devils have now moved both of their 2nds in this year's draft. I'd imagine they're done now barring a major injury (*cuts down tree*). In terms of depth I see it like this: Hall-Hischier-Palmieri Wood-Zacha-Grabner MoJo-Zajac-Bratt Coleman-Boyle-Gibbons Noesen/Stafford/Hayes Greene-Vatanen Moore-Severson Butcher-Lovejoy Mueller/Santini Schneider Kinkaid Lack They absolutely needed a forward like Grabner for the top 9, this is a great pickup and a reasonable price. Hopefully he can be resigned if things work out.

Rykov looked good in last year's WJC but he's signed with SKA to something dumb like 2021 and the Devils are gonna need to keep Hall around for the long haul. Wonder if this means Mojo is done for the year.

So, just to be clear, the theoretical trade would look like this: Tampa sends picks/prospects/whatever to Ottawa for Karlsson and Ryan Tampa then unloads Ryan to another team and sweetens the pot with picks/prospects/whatever Right? Otherwise, what is the point of linking the two? Ottawa could just shop Karlsson for a bigger haul and then package Ryan elsewhere with their own sweetener. edit: this is all accepting Melnyk’s bizarre premise that the only way to trade Karlsson is to include Ryan.

Apparently not that many teams are actually in on Karlsson. Dorian is a terrible GM and will say “that was the only team that was interested” when he trades away the best D in the league for a couple rotten beans.
