That is good to know! Since I'm already a route-and-a-half deep, I think I'll have to cut my losses and just look that stuff up later. When I get to Hollow Ataraxia, I'm gonna try to ascertain more of this stuff beforehand. I'd even like to play without a walkthrough for a change.

God, the music in this game really gets to me.

The more I think about it, I was probably hasty to condemn the everyday scenes. I'm hooked on the more dramatic elements of the story, but I guess taking out the quieter "mundane" parts would be like taking out the Ten Forward scenes in Star Trek: The Next Generation. They seem to tell us a lot about where the characters are at and how they relate to each other.

Just a heads up that there are at least a couple dead ends in the Heavens Feel route (Mind of Steel and Sparks Liner High) that you'll almost certainly want to see, especially if you're more interested in the dramatic parts. Sparks Liner High in particular is some people's favorite part of the VN.

And while UBW good end is a nice little extra scene and easy to get, it's nothing that special. In HF though absolutely make sure you get the true end. If you're going to get the normal end, too, then I'd get it first. Normal first, then True.

I think LE, at least so far, is pretty nonsensical and not a very well put together show. It's certainly interesting but mostly for reasons beyond its actual artistic merits. Like, woah Shinji isn't a total douchebag and Blackmore is a murderous rear end in a top hat, what's up with that? But the actual script, scene compositions, pacing, art direction (sad for Shaft) isn't anything really special.

Shaft direction and art style clash too much with Nasu type of narration. It's really disappointing, so far.

LE seems designed to appeal to people who've already played Extra with a big 'What the heck is going on here' sign on it. That and people who want lots of Nero fanservice.

As a show in and of itself it's... okay? I guess.

I mean Monogatari, for all its faults, still always had extremely well constructed dialogue and rapport with its characters. LE has not really featured any of that.

If this is even remotely true in the Japanese, the English subtitlers must have been just completely asleep at the wheel.

I mean we're talking about a series with a deep love of double entendres and word puns largely translated by Crunchyroll, that goes without saying.

For the most part the snappiness of it still comes through fairly well. Dialogue is like the one thing Nisio can probably consistently hang his hat on (see, also: Katanagatari).

why do you think it's designed for people who've already played Extra by putting them in the same position as everyone else.
wouldn't that make it, designed for anyone

Blackmore was always a murderous rear end in a top hat. None of the Extra Masters have clean hands.

Maybe my wording about 'designed to appeal' is wrong. But it's more like people who've played Extra would be the ones who are asking 'what's going on here? Why is everything changed from what we knew?' whereas others who would not be familiar with it would just go '...eh' and ignore it.

OK specifically a murderous rear end in a top hat who is willing to play dirty and actually play to Robin's strengths rather than more or less neutering him by trying to be honorable in original Extra.

Realta Nua is a remaster of the original visual novel (top 2 on the right), Hollow Ataraxia is a completely separate story and sort of sequel to the original FSN (and is also extremely good)

Ok, that makes sense. I'm guessing I won't get any of the status screens until Saber shows up too. It's not the ideal version since it doesn't have all the added bonuses of the beast's lair translation patch but it's got the voices, it's in english, and the h scenes so it's good enough.

Does it have the additional music and CGs from Realta Nua? If not then you probably want to find a version that does (or a patch that adds them).

I really would try to get the RN versions if you can, there are a lot of effects or CGs that are really only implemented right on it. Same with any of the new music. I'm assuming you're using the original Mirror-Moon patch with the hacks to add in the voices and some RN CGs/music.

If you really care about the cut scenes the Beast Lair Vita patch lets you add it back in if you really want. E: I don't care about the cut porn or the Vita additions (though the new OPs are rad) so I use the vanilla patch, but you can get both here: http://forums.nrvnqsr.com/showthread.php/4745

The tears of time
There's some campy fun to some of the sex scenes (I like the idea of Rin stage directing the first fate one), and some characterization in some of them (I don't know if I buy Shirou leaving his life behind to follow Rin to England if the UBW one doesn't happen. his line about not doing it for the magic, but because he wants to with her is important for establishing their romantic relationship.)

Most of the sex scenes are dumb though and the execution is horrific, and the replacements are also dumb. I wish they were just less explicit and more meaningful.

I rolled my eyes when Rin said something like, "Wow, I didn't know I swung this way," because it was obvious from her interactions with her classmates way back in the Prologue.

Rin posted:

In contrast to her nasty mouth, she's a Japanese beauty who looks wonderful in a kimono.

Ayako posted:

Ayako posted:

There's no way you'd ever be concerned about a guy.

Though Rin is a tsundere, so being in denial about that is actually in character.

The UBW anime removes basically all suggestion of this, though. I'm not sure if they were deliberately avoiding any hint that Rin is less that completely straight or just cutting the mundane classroom stuff for time.

Does your version have the original version of the OST or the PS Vita remixes? Cause the latter are much worse in my opinion.
