Hornqvist extended 5 years at $5.3M per year. Like every Penguins fans I love Hornqvist but woof, that's a heinous overpay that they're going to regret for years. Dude's 31, already pretty slow and increasingly fragile. But whatever, they won two loving Cups  That's a big reason why it's so hard to stay on top, the pressure to be loyal to the guys that won for you in the past by devoting too much cap space to them in the future is really intense.

Holland collected a bunch of picks the last two years, which makes it imperative that Holland is not the GM at the draft. Beat writers saying Green’s injury scared teams away but that seems like bullshit. He was only willing to waive his NTC for Tampa (who got McDonagh) and Washington (who apparently didn’t have the cap space). Not much Holland can do there (except NOT GIVE OUT A NTC TO EVERY GODDAMN PLAYER). Still looking for confirmation that he tried to trade Nyquist to Winnipeg, though. Detroit could probably unload him at the draft.

i really like hajek and howden the more i read about them. howden is on a stacked whl team but putting up way over a ppg and was excellent in world jrs. hajek was also great in world jrs (and a teammate of chytil's). i have dreams of drafting zadina and kaut (at least kaut, who should be easily available with one of our later 1sts or a 2nd). lindgren i don't really feel any type of way about but i like rykov. having 3 1sts loving owns. as far as the pieces we got rid of, we all knew nash was well past his prime, grabner was great for us but easily expendable, mcdonagh i don't think has that much juice left as a top defenseman because of all the injuries he's played through (though with all the cushion he has in tampa he should do great). miller stings a bit but i don't really see him becoming much better than he already is. and we got a 3rd round pick for nick holden who loving sucks.
