So how many times have the Habs been totally shut out this season? I feel like it has to be at least 10 times. This teams just never going to be able to score, it's so loving pathetic for an NHL team. I think Buffalo will probably end up overtaking the Habs in Goals For by the end of the season but Arizona's franchise long shittiness will keep them out of dead last for that category. For how dreadful the Coyotes continue to be they are still only less than 10 goals back on the Habs and had no problem scoring 5 against them.

Also with Plekanec gone that's now only Price remaining from the team build when I first started following the modern Price era of the Habs. Don't think I'm going to be following them quiet so closely for the remainder of the decade now if not longer. Without the dynamic energy of PK and just nobody to be particularly excited about outside of Gallagher who I feel will somehow get traded for mediocrity in the off season, they just aren't the fun team to watch anymore that despite always having trouble scoring and not being anything particularly special on paper throughout the 2010's, still found ways to win, compete (for at least 2 periods) and conjure up unlikely results season after season going back to when Halak stole those Washington and Penguins playoffs series and got me back on the active hockey and Habs wagon. It's really not any particular players fault, it's Bergevin's for trading away everything that made the team viable up until 2016 for his hair brained gritty team scheme that to nobody's surprise hasn't panned out in the slightest.

gently caress Bergevin again so hard for saying things like the "answer is in the room" and always blaming players for not being able to develop well with the team while never seeming to accept any responsibility for having poo poo sense on how to build a competitive NHL so much as dismantle one and consistently kill and stifle high level draft picks confidence and potential. Yes the answer WAS usually in the room during the tough stretches they'd always seem to run into in November and February until 2016.....when he loving traded it or let it walk away.....

I feel like Molson somehow needs to go for allowing this culture of stifling players personalities or trading away ones that refuse to conform to Bergevin's stupid standards for the roster and having to have only French speaking management. Like it's not directly his fault I feel, but if he's not going to do anything to change that aspect of the club culture that is clearly capping the franchises potential to compete in todays NHL than he needs to go and sell the team to someone that will. Like I've really thought about it but it's all crystal clear at this point more than the need to do something about Martin and Therrien who I now think weren't really the problems in their bad seasons.

Nobody wanted him two summers ago. Nobody wanted him last summer. And now we have two deadlines in a row where teams have known Vanek was available and he went to bubble teams both times. Yes, Benning and Holland are idiots, but Vanek is also not valued by this league and for pretty good reason.

Ovechkin's on pace for 51 goals and 42 assists at age 32. It would be his best season since 2009-10 when he was 24 years old.

I personally can't wait for the "coach-killer" hot takes after the Capitals are summarily dispatched in 5 games by the Flyers in the first round.

Has there been any word on whether or not Kovalchuk is still interested in the Rangers? I guess it comes down to whether he wanted to come back to chase a Cup or if he just wanted to get paid lots of money to play hockey and party in NYC for the last few years of his playing career.

Given the fact that the Rangers will probably have plenty of cap space and seemingly a ton of young Russian prospects coming through the system, I'd still take him for 3 years or so.

EDIT: Ha, never mind. Just saw this tweet:

gosh! i like both the islanders and the rangers!!! :^)

Dumb Idea alert:

What if draft position (for non-playoff teams) was decided by the number of points a team gets after being mathematically eliminated from playoffs? Instead of straight up tanking, you'd have to sandbag then go on a tear to get a good draft position. Players probably don't like it much when fans cheer for a loss, or having people talk about a tank. And a terrible start to a season could be salvaged if you go off. Also, you can still make trades after the deadline, right? It's just that the players aren't playoff eligible? The idea of a bad team trading for like, EK, to get a better shot at someone like McDavid, would be hilarious.

Anyway, dumb idea, but I thought it was fun. Also 3 pt regulation wins would be nice, but whatevs.

If Sather was still doing things all by himself then I'd see this as likely but I'm believing SUPER HARD that there's a coherent long game in place here and they're not going to call it a 'retool on the fly' and try to go for it in 2018/2019
