Two goals were touched (one blatantly) but missed by the goal umpires. Just like the field umpires AFLW needs fulltime umps people to do the games, not just the trainees. Pretty easy to have 1 of the four field umps be the regular AFL ones to basically run the match. I'd rather have razor ray than rookies who don't notice players getting pushed around off the ball (the hosking twins) or not paying blatant dropping the ball which happened a few times on both sides.
There is no goal review technology either so those goals (which are more important in aflw than in afl) are not looked at.

And a 9-0 free kick count in the first quarter to the doggies didn't help either.

Yes I'm complaining but we're not winning any of the remaining 3 games so vOv

If they put the regular AFL umpires in they have to pay them the regular AFL umpire rate, and they siphoned all that money off to pay them for AFLX

Dale Morris has done a partial ACL tear and Will Setterfield from GWS (#5 draft pick in 2016) did his ACL as well.

The footy gods are taking revenge for the grave insult that was AFLX.

Saad’s first possession for Essendon was 3 bounces, burnt off 3 opponents to kick a long range goal. I’m more excited about him than Stringer or Smith

Nice to see good scoring in the AFLW even if it was only one side managing it.

Finally forked out for fox now so we could watch some footy & f1, was so good to see the boys run out again! Love the new jumpers <3

Ah Chee and Venables not the saviours I was hoping for but first run for the year so can't look into it too much. Redden looked good taking the Priddis spot and although there were dropped marks everywhere and all sorts of sloppy play was good to get the win against a similar strength port side. I love Jetta. Vardy was pretty great a couple of times. Ryan and Ainsworth showed a little bit but none of the new boys got much of the ball, hope they improve a lot, aslong with as Waterman & Watson. Darling was pretty crap. Hope JK and Nic Nat come back soon. Hoping for a reasonable year!

Dom Barry looks good for dream team if he gets games. Fyfe & Andrew brayshaw and doedee in the other game looked good too $$$.

yay footy!

I know Titus isn't that popular here, but in chasing more reliable content and giving Serg time to recover from his heart surgery, his podcast has changed from Sergio Paradise and himself once a week, or twice a week if they push, it's now a guaranteed twice a week of Titus plus a rotating selection of other participants, including Bulldog bannerman Danny McGinlay, Francis Leech, and more tba

They were talking about it on GuesSEN, 10 year ~1.4m deal for a vic club.

With a similar pay deal for the suns to keep him (with the afl throwing ambassador money to make him stay)

I think it's maybe 60% of the mens games. It's an enormous effort to rack up that many in a full game and even moreso to get that many in a reduced length game.

Still one of my favourite games, the Egg Andrew Wills running amok, beating the Roos at the height of their powers:

https://www.footywire.com/afl/footy/ft_match_statistics?mid=764

Freo won the game and laid 10 tackles total for the whole game. The Roos put on only 22 themselves.

Although it went too far with Lyonball a few years ago, I think I like todays game better than the 90s one. The pressure is way up and we don't have to rely on cheap high hits to get enjoyment from the physicality of it.

The Deadly Hume

Let's get a little crazy. Let's have some fun.
I think the early 00s when flooding was all the rage was possibly the nadir, not so bad having high-pressure around the ball (like mid-nougties Swans) but when teams were throwing bodies into defence while sacrificing their own attacking, that wasn't so great.

I think when the Doggies blotted Essendon's copybook in 2000 with the flooding, less "capable" teams seem to take that on as a model for a while.

Since Geelong decided to take things the other way, followed by Hawthorn and Collingwood I think footy started getting pretty good again. That's partly why I enjoyed watching the 2007 GF so much even though I was a neutral and it was a complete blowout.

(Of course I enjoyed the next year even more, but still...)
