People were anatomically the same back then, but (as far as we can tell from archaeological evidence), something changed between 50-80,000 years ago that gave rise to cognitively modern humans. Johnny Hart had 2 comic strips: Wizard of Id and B.C. B.C. , the caveman-focused comic strip explicitly named Before Christ would often feature Evangelical Christian messages, where the cavemen talk about the greatness of Jesus who won't be born for 1000s of years.  Meanwhile, Wizard of Id set in Medieval Europe when Christianity was at the center of public life almost never mentioned religion or Jesus.
