Sorry to hear that.

An old colleague gave his notice this way: "There are two ways that this will go. If you remain calm and reasonable in your expectations, I will depart a month from now and document everything to the best of my ability. I'll also be happy to provide information even after I leave if we part as friends. If you freak out or try to screw me, I'll leave immediately. You will find a USB drive on my desk with a password list on it, and you will never hear from me again for any reason unless there's a lawsuit."

I learned a few months ago that if there's no incentive for me to do anything extra, then why bother doing anything extra ever?

What are you talking about, there's always an incentive:

My boss arrived at work in a brand-new Lamborghini.
I said, "Wow, that's an amazing car!"
He replied, "If you work hard, put all your hours in, and strive for excellence, I'll get another one next year".

You did read it backwards. They weren't saying it was socialism in action - they were just tagging that very lazy argument against socialism onto the quoted "if there's no incentive why bother?".

So, I just discovered that our cheapass ticketing system (FreshService) has a "feature" that automatically recognizes attachments that are containers and opens those containers so you only see the content files attached to the ticket.

That means that it, say, unzips a .zip file.

Or it takes an Outlook email that is attached to a ticket and turns it into .txt and .html files.

So when I need a user to give me an email that they think is a phishing email, and I need to LOOK AT THE HEADER INFO.... I can't see the header info, because the loving ticketing system stripped that info from the attachment without saying anything.

And of course there is no way to turn this helpful feature off.

Is getting the user to save the email and attach it to a direct email not workable?

The system would still unarchive the contents of the .eml file into an HTML document and attachments.

Is your user savvy enough to change a file extension and trick the system?

It's a dumb feature and you should push for an option to either turn it on/off on a per-tenant basis, or supply file extensions that it won't touch.

We use it for both but I couldn’t imagine using it for strictly asset management. There are plenty of other ‘strictly’ asset management systems out there, but I guess it depends on what you’re looking for.

The ticketing system has a few quirks but support is generally helpful is getting stuff worked out.

We have to change all of our students’ passwords on our LMS since they’re instituting more stringent password requirements. This would be fine except that there is no way to bulk upload a password list. Time to spend all day changing each one individually. :eng99:

My boss's boss had some pretty specific requirements for asset management and liked that FreshService could tick off most of his boxes. I don't particularly like it, but my vote for other products was overruled. He hated Lansweeper because "it looked too old." I mean that's not a WRONG assessment, but it's kind of a dumb reason for evading a tool that can do everything you want!
