It's a piece of JUNK!
Looks like they're announcing concert dates again -- not that it's been terribly long, the last one was in December, right?

https://twitter.com/nineinchnails/status/968829529861992448

I have to wonder if they'll have a new EP to promote by then, at the latest -- it'd be overdue. In fact, if we hold him to the "8 months" thing (see thread title, lol) March (starting tomorrow!) is the "deadline" month for the last EP in the trilogy.

The EP's didn't really have that big an impact. I wonder if Trent went back to the drawing board and will just release a full LP before announcing the inevitable North American tour (which he better do soon, the anticipation is killing me).

They're just by-the-numbers NIN songs, if the EPs were supposed to be different or special I guess they failed. Personally I would have liked to hear more like Burning Bright.

I still listen to the EPs regularly and love them v:shobon:v

I didn't even like Less Than when it was first released, but now I wouldn't dispute its status as an all-time classic NIN track one bit.

Also The Background World still owns as it devolves into noise hell over several minutes :getin:

I spent like 5 years looking for a copy of Fixed

Places always had Further Down the Spiral, but never Fixed

yeah fixed was very rare to see in record stores for most of the 90's. and when i did find it that poo poo blew my mind in a way that no other NIN record really has (especially since thats how i found out about Coil)

it wasn't like super rare it was more like if you lived in the suburbs with only a tower and a blockbuster music or whatever you had to drive to a real city with real record stores for a chance of finding a copy

Keep bustin'
On the subject of "NIN CDs we saw on retail shelves," I've got a weird one I could never quite make sense of. I specifically recall seeing the "Starsuckers, Inc" radio single in a Circuit City back in the day. And this was before I followed NIN at all, so it's not like I had any other info to be getting mixed up with. It was definitely a 3-track single with "Starsuckers, Inc" and "Star****ers, Inc" on it, and when I saw this CD online years later, I recognized the cover.

My guess is that Circuit City had these as a retailer-exclusive item to throw in with, say, Things Falling Apart... and I came across a few stray copies in the main shelves? I dunno, it was definitely one of those "not for resale" promo dealies.

Years later I ended up buying one on eBay for like $16; it's probably the most out-of-the-way NIN CD I own :shobon:.

So there's a rumor that the new NIN release is currently being mixed. It comes via an Alternative Nation low-effort clickbait article about a Facebook post by some band I've never heard of who wants Alan Moulder to mix their stuff but allegedly he's currently too busy with NIN. Make of it what you will.

Lurked over at EchoingTheSound to see if I could get a summary of the BBC interview, and the main points of importance are:

  • concert at the Royal Albert Hall on June 24th
  • the final EP in the trilogy will be out before "the shows" (so currently, June 24th at the latest, but we'll see what other dates are announced)
  • This EP is taking slightly longer because they're working hard on making it sound unpredictable

Actually the first show is June 22, cool.

EDIT: A more official summary, courtesy of Spin:

https://www.spin.com/2018/03/nine-inch-nails-ep-release-date/

quote:

During a recent BBC radio interview, Nine Inch Nails’ Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross revealed that a new NIN EP will be released before the end of June. The pair sat down to discuss their upcoming appearance at the Robert Smith-curated Meltdown Festival in London, where NIN will take the stage June 22. Reznor promised the new EP will drop before their appearance: “We’re in the process of finishing that right now and that should be out before the shows take place,” he said. “It’s not what we expected it to be,” he added.

This yet-to-be-named EP will close the trilogy that began with 2016’s Not The Actual Events and continued with last July’s Add Violence. “We started out with a pretty rigid concept of what the three EPs were gonna be, having not written them all but having a kind of blueprint for the trajectory and the sound,” Reznor said. As NIN started working on what they thought would be the third EP, it all started to feel “too predictable,” Reznor said. “It felt like we were forcing things, musically and storytelling-wise and the whole trajectory. The reason this has been a little bit delayed is… it took us a while for what has become the third EP to reveal itself to us.”

Hell yeah, got myself an 'Arena Standing' ticket for the Royal Albert Hall show. I was only 900th something in line when I logged onto the ticket site yesterday morning at 0830, which then gradually dropped as it got closer to 0900?
