:siren: GOON DISCORD IS HERE: https://discord.gg/XeAaDY3 :siren:

What is Vermintide:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9kSdE5cLnwQ
Imagine this but then they all come for you in a bloodthirsty rage.

Have a gameplay video from back in beta: https://youtu.be/A4PsuOqoQo4
The core gameplay around Vermintide is going to be inherently familiar to anyone who has played Left 4 Dead. Set in the Warhammer universe, the game pits four survivors from disparate backgrounds come together and bond over their mutual love of running places and murdering rats. Like Left 4 Dead 2, people who have played the first game should be right at home, the core mechanics are mostly undisturbed while the players have more tools at their disposal to bash rats.

So what’s new from the first game?
Obviously we have a new series of maps for which to bash rats in, but that’s not all:

+Chaos has joined the fight. Now mixed in with the waves of skaven are the hordes of marauding norsemen of the Chaos god Nurgle. They are gross. They wheeze at you constantly. They are harder to put down than standard rats. They come with their own set of specials: Two sorcerer variants (Blightstorm callers and Lifeleechers), the Norse champions, and Warriors of Chaos, along with Chaos Spawn and Bile Trolls as new boss monsters that can potentially take the place of the Rat Ogre.

+The Skaven are also coming to bear with new specials as well. Warpfire throwers are now on the scene to hose down you and your friends in concentrated warcrime. Stormfiends (rat ogres equipped with warpfire throwers and heavy armor) have also hit the field as a potential boss monster.

+But that’s not to say that the heroes didn’t come prepared as well. Each hero can choose one of three careers that each comes with unique passive and active abilities, as well as a talent tree to allow you ways to differentiate from each other further. To top this off, we’re looking at 9-10 new weapons spread out among the crew to better help them bash rats with on top of all the weapons (minus one) from the original game + DLCs.

So who are the player characters?

Victor Saltzpyre: Likes to think he’s the leader of the group but nobody pays him much mind. Saltzpyre tends to skew towards light, fast weapons as the tools of his trade. Likes purging, Blessed Sigmar, and pistols. Dislikes rats, heresy, and the elf.

His three careers are:
Witch Hunter Captain, an all-rounder career focused on bonus damage for marked targets and feeding his party critical hits.
Bounty Hunter A Ranged combat focused career that likes to mix up melee and ranged attacks to feed him critical hits.
Zealot A melee focused career that gets more dangerous as his health gets lower.
---
Markus Kruber: He was Victor’s bodyguard/escort in the first game and went off the deep end a bit between games when he found out his family had been killed by the rats. Primarily operates out of an alcoholic fugue now. He tends toward infantry weapons like heavy blades, rifles, shields, and two handed weapons like a Warhammer or halberd. Has a swanky hat.

His three Careers are:
Mercenary: An offensive career that gets bonuses for hitting multiple enemies per swing and increased cleaving power. His active grants temporary health to help soak damage from a boss or vicious wave.
Huntsman: A ranged career that focuses on getting mega damage headshots. He can gain temporary stealth to move around the fight unmolested and turn his blunderbuss into the thundering hammer of god Taal.
Knight: A defensive career that has damage resistance standard. Has a hilarious charge active with a short cooldown, play this if you love shouting SIRKRUBER! at everyone.
---
Sienna Fuegonassus: Is a wizard of the bright college and is an obligate pyromaniac. Sienna is unique in that she does not have traditional ranged weaponry, she uses spells instead which behave in similar fashion but do not use ammunition. Instead she has a heat meter that determines how much she can use her spells. If you over exert yourself you overheat and explode, downing yourself instantly, so don’t overdo it.

Her three careers are:
Battle Wizard: A ranged focused career that focuses on keeping your heat low to keep you casting more often. Her active is a short range dash.
Pyromaniac: A ranged focused career that focuses less on heat management and moreso on doing high damage in general. Her active is a homing firebolt on a short cooldown that doesn’t build heat.
Unchained: A melee focused career that sacrifices on spell potency to allow you to do more melee damage when you are at high heat. Taking damage builds up heat, so be careful not to accidentally overload yourself by getting tagged by a slave.
---
Bardin Goreksson: A dwarf who joined the characters of the first game to try and get them to help find an ancient dwarf hold. He was apparently not successful in this venture. Of all the characters in this game, he seems to be the one who is legitimately loving every minute of this poo poo and having a great time killing rats and norsemen. Uses dwarfy weapons like axes and hammers and rifles, but also gets access to a couple of flame belching guns that run off of the same heat mechanic that Sienna uses.

His three careers are:
Ranger Veteran: A ranged focus career that causes special enemies to drop ammo satchels, allowing everyone in the group to maintain their ranged supplies for longer. At higher levels he can opt to turn some ammo drops into healing or stat potions.
Ironbreaker A defense focused career that specializes in being an immovable brick shithouse and making GBS threads great gouts of warcrime fire everywhere with a drakegun.
Slayer An offense focused career that gives up a ranged weapon entirely. In exchange for that, he gets the ability to equip a second melee weapon as well as a potent passive that gives him more damage the more he attacks.
---
Kerillian: An elf. She is very whiny and complains about everyone else constantly. All the other characters hate her. Pubbies love her because she’s emo Legolas. May or may not be cursed by the magical hellforest she calls home. She uses blades and daggers in various combinations as well as spears and bows.

Her three careers are:
Waywatcher: A ranged focus career that gives her passive health regeneration. Her active is a trueshot volley that auto-homes in on your target, to compensate the fact that they struck the regular trueshot bow from the game.
Handmaiden: A defensive career that focuses on increased dodging ability and stamina regeneration. She can stand people up without being interrupted, which would be a huge deal If not for the fact that basically anyone can do so.
Shade: An offensive career that focuses on backstabbing and listening to Evanescence albums on repeat. She can actually do some incredible damage if left to her antics (and if she can get behind the mob) and can oneshot chaos warriors from behind.

I fucking hate puzzles.
I lived under a rock my whole life and never played the first game. What do I need to know?
Since this is a Left 4 Dead inspired game, a lot of the same rules that applied there apply here as well. Stay together and support each other because the special rats and norsemen usually have ways to either disable you or lop of large chunks of your health.

+Play to your strengths and try to cover other’s weaknesses. If you are buddied up with a greatsword wielding Kruber, he’s going to do work on big swarms of rats, but is going to have trouble dealing with armor. Therefore, if Saltzpyre or Baradin bring out an axe, it’ll allow them to be a can opener when Kruber is having trouble with that chaos warrior.

+Unlike Left 4 Dead, you really can’t expect to rely solely on your ranged weapon, even as a ranged focused class. Most ranged weapons carry between 12 and 30ish shots and heat is a limiting factor for the Wizard and the Dwarf’s flame guns. Ammunition is limited and there are always more rats who need bashed. Break out that sword and get to swinging.

+No two weapons are going to play exactly alike. Some weapon types come with things like improved Armor piercing or even an ancillary ranged weapon in the case of Victor’s rapier. Experiment with your characters weapons and get a feel for what you like and what doesn’t. The balance is pretty reasonable and there are very few bad choices.

+Blocking works in a 360 degree radius around you, though it is less effective from the sides and rear and uses up more of your stamina (those shields that pop up with you raise your guard). Some weapons have wider block ranges like shield + weapons, and some like daggers have narrower effective block ranges. You can also cancel any of your own attack animations by throwing up your guard if you aren’t going to get a charged attack off before something hits you.

+Use your dodging. If you hold side to side or backwards and hit spacebar, you’ll do a dodge in that direction. This is especially important for slower weapons like the Warhammer, where you want to stick and move to prevent getting attacked on your next wind up.

+Most of the “big” maps will have three tomes and two grimoires. Picking them up is not required but bringing them to the end of the map will reward you with better loot. Tomes are carried in your healing slot, meaning you won’t be able to carry a health kit while you have one, though if you run across healing you can drop the tome, drink the health potion, then pick the tome up again. Grimoires are a bit more insidious. They take up your speed/strength/concentration potion slot, but while someone is carrying a grimoire everyone’s health is cut by 1/3rd (or 2/3rds if you have both of them). If someone drops a grimoire (or is killed while carrying it), It blows up and is done for the rest of the mission.

nah, and the dumb thing is that there's a lot of things interesting in these actives/passives that are not documented in game. but off the top of my head:

Marky K:
Merc:
Passive: Sweeping Strikes - hitting 3+ enemies in one strike increases your attack speed by 10% for 5 seconds
Active: Morale Boost - Knocks down nearby enemies, gives temporary health to nearby allies

Huntsman:
Passive: Waste not want not - Critical headshot restores 1 ammo. Double ammo. Critical strike aura
Active: Stalk - Go invisible for a brief while. When revealed, all attacks (melee and ranged) do 1.5x damage* for 10 seconds.
(*: This still feels like a lot more)

Foot Knight:
Passive: Damage resist aura. Increased health. Increased Stamina.
Active: Anime Charge - Charge forward with the power of anime and knock down everyone in your path

Dwarfy B:
Veteran Ranger:
Passive: Killed specials drop a small bag of ammo. Double ammo in reserve.
Active: Smoke bomb allows Bardin to enter stealth for a short while

Ironbreaker:
Passive: One hit every 20 seconds does no damage. Increased stamina.
Active: Taunts all man-sized (e.g., not bosses or chaos warriors) enemies nearby. Blocking costs no stamina for 10 seconds.

Slayer:
Passive: Hitting the same target over and over increases damage.
Active: Big old jump into battle. Knocks down targets at point of impact. Increases attack speed by a lot for 10 seconds.

Salty P:
Witch Hunter Captain:
Passive: Tagged enemies take 10% more damage (it is not 25% as I thought it was a few days ago, my bad)
Active: Knocks down nearby enemies and grants bonus crit strike chance to nearby allies.

Bounty Hunter:
Passive: One shot every 8 seconds is a guaranteed critical. Can also be refreshed by getting a melee kill. Double ammo in reserve.
Active: Saltzpyre pulls out a magnum and loving executes whatever rear end in a top hat is right in front of him

Zealot:
Passive: Damage increases and interruptability decreases as health gets lower.
Active: Anime charge much like Kruber's it's great

Sassy S:
Battle Wizard:
Passive: not taking damage or casting spells for 8 seconds doubles how quickly you shed overcharge
Active: Blink forward about 30 feet

Pyromancer:
Passive: Crit rate goes up as your overcharge increases
Active: Hold F to erase anything you hate

Unchained:
Passive: Half of all damage taken goes to your overcharge instead
Active: Press F to explode, doing more damage the higher your overcharge is

Elf:
idk elf is against my religion

This is good information that should be in the new thread.
