It's really hard to know what to say/post. This reveal, this expansion, is literally every nerd-rear end dream I had about playable octolings coming true. I am happier than can be expressed in internet posts, and it's stupid as hell and I don't care because it's literally everything I ever wanted w/r/t Splatoon. This is 100% going to get me back into Splat2 in a big way and I am going to die waiting for "Summer 2018". Please god let that be June. I should make sure to dust myself off in the meantime and get ready for octos.

I kind of feel sorry for everyone involved with ARMS, the developers, fans, etc. They tried so hard to replicate Splatoon's success, but it turns out you can't put lightning in a bottle twice. Also, Off The Hook amiibos are releasing on the 13th of July in Japan at least. The plan was for a year of content updates and two years of support, mirroring the six months of content and year of support Splat1 got. As Octo is going to be landing very close to Splat2's anniversary, it feels safe to say that the content plan has been expanded out well beyond the original year.

If the datamined content is any indication, they planned longer-term support for ARMS but didn't follow through with it for whatever reason, perhaps because the game wasn't selling in a sustained way. ARMS' content and feature suite were consistent with that of a traditional fighting game and it dropped off for all the reasons traditional fighting games tend to drop off.
