I don't know what I'm getting into but I'm leaning heavily at terrible film noir detective. Can I be Dick Tracey's less competent third cousin, or something to that effect? I'm also playing with the notion of roleplaying Donald Trump. Cause that would be stupid and wonderful. But I don't know that I have the stamina for it. We'll see, I guess I've got a month.

While there have been many helpful tips, take it from someone who had a rather thin characterization compared to everyone else when starting out in Myst: use your background and win condition as a good guidepost and then just run with it.

Exactly. I'm not sure how different it will be this time, but last time you were given a character and a bit of a backstory on them. You're not obligated to go along with the characterizations you're given, but it's fun to try to make it work. I was given a fightmans backstory but I only wanted to puzzle, so I instead focused in on the fact that her mother was a known hero before she died so her motivation is to live up to her mother's legacy. That one idea basically motivated everything else she did. As Max said, pick some characteristics in your background that speak to you and run with it.
