I just discovered this thread and came to declare how fun Tales From The Tour Bus was, but see it’s been discussed. Instead I’ll leave these clips from the concert Johnny Paycheck (with Merle Haggard), put on at CCI while doing time for shooting that guy... I’ll Break Out Again Tonight (mistitled as Jailhouse Rock?) https://youtu.be/qTiFlCq9h-s I’m The Only Hell My Momma Ever Raised: https://youtu.be/HWLtpw7Ahxs Chillicothe; https://youtu.be/L-dm3hsmHGg Sorry for the poo poo quality, it’s the best that has surfaced. Between the state, Merle, Paycheck and who ever else owns a stake in these songs, it’s not difficult to see why the planned video and album was never released. I’m from the same area and ‘someone who has a whole copy’ has became somewhat of an e; I should add I recall in the earlier days of the Internet really searching for this. I found a guy in Greenfield that supposedly owned the rights (?) but did seem to have a copy. Unfortunately he was also selling his own lovely music and KKK material, so I wasn’t about to send him like $50 for something that almost certainly wouldn’t show up or be a 5th generation copy of what I had already had Dr.Caligari fucked around with this message at 04:45 on Feb 6, 2018 |

me your dad posted:Got any recommendations for Garcia's country material (other than New Riders of the Purple Sage)? Jerry and David Grisman did a ton of stuff together over the years, a lot of which leans country. Youtube is full of their shows, which always seem to be a mix of old traditionals, jammy instrumentals, full on bluegrass, acoustic Dead tunes, and the odd country number. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KzHMxfbF-cI The Pizza Tapes is kind of a standard answer to "What's good acoustic Jerry Garcia et al?" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z8S9YkhDjWM The Grateful Dead live album Skull and Roses has some country-leaning tunes. The opening three in particular. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lZiBjTno9Uc

Alvarez IV posted:Is there any good psychedelic country music? Not psychedelic folk, I know about that stuff. I'm looking for something that sounds like it should be sitar but is really a zither. Ideally from the 60s or 70s, but I won't say no if it's modern, it's just more interesting to me if it came out back when country music was seemingly (not really) less experimental. Somehow I feel like it's going to be Jesus music but that's alright with me. this is a great list for that - it's a mixture of contemporary and earlier stuff, tho, and some of the records aren't very country (or very psychedelic): https://rateyourmusic.com/list/crunchytunes/best_psychedelic_country_rock_records/2/

Hey guys, I'd like to ask for some song recommendations. Specifically, my band the Lost Highway Ensemble will be playing at Glasgow's Grand Ole Opry next month, and while we're mostly a Bill Monroe/Louvin Brothers type bluegrass outfit, that particular venue seems to cater more towards a country western style and we'd like to avoid a Blues Brothers type scene with angry Glaswegians instead of hicks. So what I'm looking for is danceable country western songs from the 1930s-50s that would suit a five piece with banjo, mandolin, fiddle, guitar, and double bass. Anything at all is helpful. Thanks so much!

Another request: are there any good streaming radio stations that play not-pop country? Spotify and Pandora are great, but my job has me writing for full days sometimes and I would like a station that has a human DJ so I can hear another voice now and again. I've given up listening to my local country station for obvious reasons.

I'm pretty sure you can sign up for a free trail and stream it for a few days.

They play a lot of good country, and at times have strictly country playlists or programs. I always listen to them when I'm in the area.

I’ve heard much worse first season podcasts that went on to be great. I’ve ordered at least three books on country music that have been recommended on it so far, I think. The Buck Owens episodes were fantastic. drat that guy wrote some great songs

What always impressed me was how tight the Buckaroos were, no matter what the lineup was. The first two episodes of The Buck Owens show is on YouTube and its quite impressive that the band could play ALL the music for a the entire 30 minutes and not miss a thing. If you look at performances after Don's passing in 1974, you can see that Buck is simply going through the motions. His eyes tell you everything you need to know.

It's a decent book. It covers some surprisingly low profile artists if I recall. They said, I don't think I've cracked my copy open in about 5 years. It's just so much easier to find info on the internet.

I don't recall Crippled Black Phoenix being mentioned in here yet. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j-bOgwfLc0s https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jI6OupafUgY It's not exactly country, but has some nice jangly chords and that special dusty psychedelic feel of Friends of Dean Martinez. edit: Ok after listening to a few of their songs, maybe this isn't the most appropriate thread. I'll leave them here anyway because it's a slow thread and good music still. HenryJLittlefinger fucked around with this message at 15:46 on Apr 20, 2018 |
