I kinda hope ZSJr wins now and challenges his okashira Suzuki for the U.S. Title in a brutal grapplefuck match.

Not much activity for this show, so I'll just say that I like the announcers arguing over whether the Owens/Ibushi team should be called Golden Owens or Chase Lovers.

I've heard random people on the internet(mostly in YouTube comment sections) repeatedly say the following two things: "NJPW should run weekly shows." and "NJPW is only good because it's easy to book long-term storylines without having to do weekly shows." And that got me wondering exactly how many shows does New Japan do in a year? If my count is correct, New Japan did 81 broadcast shows in 2017, not counting Lions Gate shows, Togi Makabe's Anniversary Show, or RoH/Rev Pro shows. That works out to 1.5 shows-per-week on average.

Put Elgin and Juice together in Tag League as 'Gin & Juice. Tanahashi vs. Juice is a fun semi-final with a great underdog vibe, though I'm still looking forward to the other side of the bracket more.

It's not just the G1 but the Best of the Super Juniors, and World Tag League make up a significant chunk of shows. If I get bored enough at work tomorrow, I may go back and organize the different show types for further analysis. And, yeah, New Japan runs a lot of televised house shows, but they don't count because house shows never count.

Your Boy Fancy posted:Aren’t there a bunch of random house shows full of tags that go untelevised? Yep. And while it’s fun to see them in a town gym in front of 200 people, it’s also firmly in the house show category. NJPW doesn’t need a weekly show in the vein of WWE. The lack of high school drama level acting is a major positive to me.

New Japan is great, but you know what it really needs? 20-minute opening promos from authority figures to set up a main event match that they inexplicably haven't booked before going on the air.
