The only RSD thing I want is The Guest soundtrack they put out a few years ago, but it's missing some songs and I'm not paying like 80 bucks or whatever so

This and also the Tom Waits Orphans collection thanks.

Edit: $400 on Discogs. Someone's going to record store day this year :negative:

I'm not sure I "get" record store day. Can someone give me a quick explanation of how it works?

Looking through the list, I also saw a Johnny Guitar Watson album (Giant) and the Wu-Tang Clan's first album along with an instrumental version of The Saga which looks really cool.

Look closer. That Wu-Tang release is a cassette because that's the new "purist" collector thing?

Yeah yeah I know ... a lot of noise bands and experimental artists are dropping exclusive stuff on cassettes and it's super rad

if you just wanna hear it, it'll totally be up on spotify and stuff, like the Cracked Actor release last year. I'm pretty sure this is the first posthumous live release that includes actual truly-unreleased content (iirc like ~half of it exists as a soundboard bootleg), so I'm kinda excited, even if it's an almost-identical setlist to Stage

as for whether it'll get a wide pressing, probably not soon, but I could see them doing a box set or wide release of some of these limited records at some point, to snag the completionists who have been buying all the regular box sets

That's kinda neat because my car's CD player broke before I bought it but the cassette deck still works.

Comeon guys. Im cool now, right?
I figured out the Scraping.

I ended up finding the manual which said the top of the platter had to sit 24 mm above the whole cabinet. It was the Platter Height Adjustment that needed to be done. You can see where it was grinding the material around the stroboscope.

I took off the top metal platter and tightened them all down. Then I starting checking it with a level and adjusting till it was good around and it spins with the rubber platter and a LP with no issue.

Anyone know any more about the RSD Miles Davis album? Is it truly unreleased or is it one of those things that’s been around for 30 years, but just never given a proper record label?

Also I’m kind of happy to see Now-Again reissuing Axelrod’s Songs of Innocence. I’ve wanted a copy for a while, but cheap pressings of it are hard to come by.

The Rascals complete As and Bs will be really good, since they are really a great band. It isn't until the very end that the quality of the singles go down, even after they stopped having hits.

Hopefully, they do something about the foreign language Groovins, since listening to that song 3 times in row, twice in what I assume are bad versions of romance languages cannot be enjoyable.

According to some quick google-fu the recordings were shelved and he released Tutu instead (the RSD blurb says that much). Some other sites imply that at least two of the tracks have been bopping around in some for on compilations, most likely. This is later era Davis, and "Rubber Band" is described as "plodding fusion-funk." That might help in your decision. I haven't really listened to much of his later era stuff after he left Colombia.

The Icky Thump B-sides disc that came with the Icky X box set last year did a similar thing with “Conquest,” where both the acoustic mariachi and Spanish language versions were together at the end of side B. It would be nicer to bookend the side with them rather than listening to the same song twice in a row.

Heh, so my LP120 showed up before my records did. Ended up going to the local Barnes and Nobles and grabbed myself the Tron: Legacy soundtrack.

This is definitely an improvement over the LPs I listened to as a kid, played on lovely crosley-level chinese record players of the early 90s.

Weird to see the U.K. release on the list. That said, the description all but admits it's trying to cash in on John Wetton's death and is trying to lie and say the original album is difficult to find.

The Hawkwind album would be extremely fun, though. It's already been released on cds for Parallel Universe and the live tracks contain a lot from Hall of the Mountain Grill. Not gonna find it around here, though.

This album is ok if you happen to run across it and have presumably $30 to spend. It's like Ramones but not as good.

You maniacs! You blew it up! God damn you! God damn you all to hell!!
It's easier to dismiss RSD now but RSD was a lot more important when not many bands were releasing vinyl and not many people were buying it. Of course it's not that important nowadays when literally every album comes out on vinyl, but it helped revitalize the format and it's still kind of cool to have a special day for small local record stores where you can't just go on Amazon or the band's website.

I'm going to try to get a few things - Arcade Fire's EP, Bowie's Welcome to the Blackout, RATM Live at the DNC, maybe one or two reissues - but I admit I'm a consumer whore.

Got to see they might be giants play in 2016 and since it was just set up in the shop there was no rail or anything and I practically got pushed onto the "stage"

When it first started out it was just a fun lowkey thing where they put out a couple odd releases of things for a sane price. When a bunch of bandwagon hoppers and scum bags found out you could make money off of it was when it started to suck. I remember the first record store day wasn't even really advertised or anything, I just happened to be in a Newbury Comics and an employee there who knows I buy a lot of records told me it was Record Store Day. I ended up buying a Flight of the Conchords single for like six bucks or something.

My recent vinyl:

A few weeks ago

Anthrax - For All Kings (7-inch box set, colored vinyl)

Today

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers - Greatest Hits
Judas Priest - Firepower (colored vinyl, 2 copies of album cover, one signed by the band)

And for non-musical stuff

A brand-new, unopened copy of "The Search For Bridey Murphy" given to me free when I bought the Tom Petty album. Bridey had a price of 20 cents on it.
