RIP Moleskinne, 2010-2018. I think this is only the second sketchbook I've actually filled up... It's been fun to see the confidence and some of my old pizazz coming back over the last few weeks. My aesthetic du jour may not be that demanding, but it's been great at getting my eye back in.

 Gave painting the old college try. I really need to stop drawing along with tutorials, this was an exercise in frustration where not having little things about layering and masking properly explained meant I ended up redoing large swathes several times over wondering why things weren't working and basically wanted to kill myself by the end.

Plenty of good advice, but there were little things, like not mentioning that Photoshop does different things depending on whether you click the thumbnail or the name of the layer, or not explicitly showing that he'd dropped the brush opacity to achieve the buildup of colour he used, or completely falling to show when he'd moved to a new layer, which made it incredibly unfriendly to beginners. But I guess my main takeaway was to just not follow along with tutorials in that way; watch it all first, then go back and experiment for yourself.

 had a bit of a lovely time RL so not been able to practice apart from quick sketches. Finally had a day free entirely so I decided to try and make a complete piece. I'm rather happy with how this turned out, I found the shadow created by the brim of the cowboy hat to be such a fun puzzle to solve.

I really like this one. You so often do figure drawings, so it's cool to see your versatility. I love the light coming through the water here, Im so loving poo poo with backgrounds. So my work flow is going through a surprising high recently. I've been taking longer on pieces and really trying to plan out exactly how Im going to attack a piece before I get to digitally painting it. I'm finally starting to realise the crucial importance of planning sketches etc to work from. Usually I dont share these because they're not that pretty, but I think this one of Matthew McConaughey looks sort of cool. I hope to get it properly painted out within the next few days

It wasn't meant to be abs, but I added a few lines too many. It started life as regular stubby Mae, so it wasn't meant to be a crop top either.  I'm bad at planning.

Your hand holding the stop watch is really nice. Love how clean and simple it looks for such a complex configuration I also like how you keep the construction lines juuuuuuust visible underneath. These simple styles can sometimes look sterile and leaving them in really helps add more life to the picture.
