Chicago radio in general is weird right now. Didn't The Loop become some sort of evangelical Christian station a month ago?

gently caress Dan McNeil forever though.

So yeah, I know my radio.com listen probably doesn't mean much, and I actually like Connor McKnight, but I haven't listened since I found out Goff was being let go.

Seriously though. Who does McNeil have pictures of to get so many drat chances.

The whole thing feels very skeevy. Saw a comment on Facebook I have to agree with, that launching Goff and bring in Mac just reeks of placating pissy white 'stick to sports' assholes. I don't like it.

It feels like they gave up on getting a younger audience (which is weird since that's the only audience that advertisers care about). Does anyone under 50 care about Dan McNeil? This is a guy who has Mike North and Bruce Wolf on his show.

Maybe they realize terrestrial radio is on its way out and they just want to milk the boomer demographic as they sink.

They just had their first week under new ownership. It's still a classic rock station most of the time but with automated playlists instead of DJs. On Saturdays they play Christian music.

Also the final songs played before the changeover were Shout at the Devil and Highway to Hell.

Confused isn't the word - giving an old white dude his four hundredth chance over a black man is pretty status quo for any industry on Earth.

The irony about ratings is that in the past ESPN cared very little about actual ratings because ad revenue was such a small proportion of their overall revenue. Nowadays with all the cord-cutting going on, their carriage fees no longer carry them and I'm sure ratings matter a lot more. I'm frankly shocked that their over the top service hasn't launched yet. They should've launched it two years ago.

They didn't have the infrastructure to do it (ESPN3 is a bad joke and entirely reliant upon ISP cooperation). That's the whole reason they bought BAMTech from MLB, so they could use its backend technology to power ESPN Plus (which is supposed to launch "this spring").

They still make enough on carriage fees that I don't think it's worth canabalizing it and alienating providers yet.

It's not like ESPN is actually losing money. They are still making a ton, it's just not increasing year to year like it was in past or like Disney shareholders expected it to.

I actually thought it was smart that they had younger talent on that would talk social issues and stuff at times. Their biggest competition is ESPN 1000 and they never veer away from sports. It was something that separated The Score.

it would be funny if they kept that dumbass relic mancow on their morning show so he could just do his bullshit except pretending to be super christian. "you know what's really been bothering me? people who don't keep the sabbath (laserbeam laserbeam aoogah horn)."

when i came back i was shocked to see billboards for that guy and that he was still around, apparently the chicago area desperately needed a 90s guy to pretend to shock people, be not even subtly racist, and give away tickets to see the remnants of warrant at a boat casino

As long as radio stations exist in Chicago, Mancow will be working.

It's funny because this is the 3rd rock station he's worked for and they all went under while he was there. They never learn.

NBC and NBCSN will be solely broadcasting IndyCar starting next year, as well as offering an IndyCar package via NBC Sports Gold. All non-broadcast practices and qualifying sessions will be on the paid stream (unknown about tests, which Indy does livestream on Youtube at the moment). There will be 8 races on NBC proper, with four of those likely being the opener, the two Indy races, and the closer, with the other four unknown. Cost of the streaming package isn't known at the moment.

The NFL is also mad that ESPN is, by far, the most vocal of its TV partners regarding declining ratings. It's been reported in more than one outlet that the relationship between ESPN and the NFL is pretty frosty at this point.
