right, so the purpose is to talk about non-music: industrial, noise, power electronics, drone and all their tiny subgenres. why not dark ambient, musique concrete and experimental music in general? as long as it's a bit hosed up and unpleasant i guess!

here's some recommendations if you're new to this sort of stuff:

industrial:
throbbing gristle https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u1wBWhyKgW0
SPK: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xXcs_hgIHH8

jaakko vanhala: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rd3trLV9ItU

power electronics:

murder company sounds good!

i've been on a posh isolation kick lately, going through all of their realeases. they mostly concentrate on techno, industrial and noise. i'm not really into techno but i have to say that some of that stuff can be addicting, especially if mixed with industrial or noise elements.

other good stuff from the label:

varg (ambient techno with an industrial vibe): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C2bO0unPe4M
flesh spear (full blown noisecore): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nk-bd25dY7M
body sculptures (ambient industrial, one of my favourite releases of 2016. amazing album!): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qC9a3aRSPbQ
caucasian colony (noise): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IFV8ggy7rxA

i'm also reading the biography of cosey fanni tutti, co-founder of throbbing gristle. she was also a stripper, a porn actress and a performance artist, really fascinating lady. anyway i've been looking into her career outside of throbbing gristle and she's done some really good stuff both on her own and in collaboration with other people.

especially this solo release caught my attention, it's from a solo cassette, ambient industrial like body sculptures and it's amazing how fresh it still sounds: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HudSwX3aiyo

I tried getting into Dissecting Table once but it was too wacky, he'd get some nice dark ambient sounds or whatever going and then death metal guitar riffs would start playing and totally ruin it.

if bodychoke, you wanna check out some noise rock. i left it out because it's a broad genre that veers quite far from the core of this thread, but i can recommend some:

angels of light (swans's michael giras other band, kind of like, folk rock with a very oppressive atmosphere? idk, awesome band and very body choke-ish) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T_dOCVMRL2Q
oxbow (brilliant): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U2d23j0Ez7M
head of david (broadrick pre-godflesh. industrial post punky noise rock): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fTDlIszv_YE

with sutcliffe jugend, check out grunt, whitehouse, brighter death now, puce mary and nurse with wound.

which sutcliffe jugend? Their older stuff is pretty different to the newer releases. Some of Ramleh's noise rock material might appeal if you like Bodychoke and want PE dudes doing noise rock https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g_BW7Ipjt-M https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HDO2eGKLuSE

The sound he gets on Pig Hydraulics is really unique to my ears, very rapid cut ups obviously but the underlying noise he's working with isn't really overly distorted like most harsh noise is, it's actually surprisingly clean.

I listened to the new BizarreSSmania record the other day and it basically has everything you want from these guys: scraping metal, weird synth noises, screaming and bassy rumble. Also its got an insert with a picture of a bondage nazi on it that says 'nazi pain master', what's not to like? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6A8GlyhUz1M

Witches of Mailbu is one of the guys from Hunting Lodge, he’s been making noise/industrial since the early 80’s at least. I just met him recently, got to play a show with him. Very cool guy.

end of the year is going to be awesome, i get to see godflesh, author & punisher, mike IX of eyehategod do a collab gig with jaakko vanhala all at the same festival and a few months later, einstürzende neubauten in this old theater... also i get to come to the us in the summer to play some noise rock. musically the best year in ages

anyway on topic, i remade this old muslimgauze compilation i bought when i was like 16. i went to the record store and asked for "something like aphex twin" who i was a fan of at the time and the clerk gave me this. it blew my mind:

Maybe this post came across as a joke but Finland completely rules for noise/PE stuff and they're only getting better. The two Bizarre Uproar albums from last year ruled(this track utterly destroys: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rwPcmeYPs-s) , the new Grunt is pretty good if you like him already, Sick Seed is always doing consistently interesting stuff(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZUyE-Pi2xpA) and there's lots of cool other acts(e.g. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jv-GeOq_V7A, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=87NguPqzb4Y) too.

definitely. i've got complaints though! i'd love there to be more synth based stuff and also most of the (admittedly awesome) gigs are organized in this small unheated container in the middle of nowhere, hah.

pain nail, which i linked to in the op, is to my ears just perfect stuff. it's mikko aspa from grunt (and deathspell omega and a myriad of other bands) and kojo, both from fleshpress (who are awesome sludge / black metal).

We thought we'd base our civilization upon yours, 'cause you're the smartest animals on earth, now ain't you?
I make harsh noise/PE down here in Texas with (mostly) analog gear. It's instrumental, improvisation-based, and mostly about meditative/trance states. I'm not crazy about the violence worship in a lot of this music, but I do believe in the power of sound. I think these records came out really nice, the lacquers were cut and plated from the master tape, so the sound has never touched a D/A, so... I can't give you a preview unless you buy a record. It's as banal an ideology as any, but it works for me.

http://www.foundobjectrecords.com/offerings/etla-lp2-12-lp

The LP1 tape that's out on the same label turned out really well too.

i would buy that record if it weren't for the stupid high postage and taxes on top. sorry.

i've been really into this guy logos lately. he's sort of a post-dubstep producer i guess, using the same soundscape as the early 2000's dubstep producers but abstracting it far enough not to really resemble any sort of dance or rhythm music at all. i also actually like how his music is really clear and digital as opposed to warm and saturated analog sound. not that i don't love analog, too!
