I found myself debating looking into how to do the whole track day (bro) thing. The entirety of my knowledge is from the first 30 seconds of the RCR 95 Miata video and the GTI is my daily. For the love of god talk me down. This will be a unmitigated disaster.

Looking to pull the trigger on some new wheels, however, I am unsure of something. 17' GTI 18x8.5 et43, 5x112. Do I need new bolts? If so the 14x1.5x27mm? Looks like ECS sells 28mm will this matter? If not, what decides on if I need a different bolt length?

probably are the new wheels the same type of seat on the bolt/lug? stock are acorn and many aftermarket wheels require conical style i converted to studs so that i didnt have to worry about length

Semi-related to this, but after damaging a wheel stud on my RS, I learned that on all third-gen focuses, the wheel studs are non-removable without grinding out part of your wheel hub. If you damage a stud, you get to replace the whole hub!

I gotcha, I just wondered if there was an engineering reason when you said that. That being said, hanging heavy wheels that are hub-centric is easier with bolts if you can lock the hub down.... Like a stick on the brake pedal. ...Or a friend for people who still have friends in their 30's. angryrobots fucked around with this message at 01:23 on Apr 4, 2018 |

About the bite the bullet on a brand new '17 Focus RS - Got a dealer down to $33K USD - only options I can see are forged wheels and nitrous blue paint. Is this an alright deal? I had terrible luck with local dealers - I was at one today that told me they don't allow test drives one "performance cars" and the lowest they would go was $39K for a car that had been on their lot for 403 days. Similar results from anyone in a 100mi radius, just would not drop the price on old stock '17's. Just baffling - I've never has such a hard time haggling for a car in my life. I would be doing a fly and drive this weekend if I pick it up - any cool roads heading back to NYC from Alabama?

Get that offer in writing and signed by the sales manager before you ever step foot on a plane. Ford dealers were being notorious assholes with the RS. I had to go through a dozen dealerships before I found one that could order mine.

Definitely get that poo poo signed and cover your rear end on EVERYTHING. They're probably banking on loving you over after you fly all the way there hoping you'll just go with it.

No it is still pre tax, I gotta pay new york state tax when I register it. I actually am back and forth now with a local dealer on another RS but this one has the RS2 package but still blue with forged wheels. They advertised 33,300 (on 41k msrp) but the color of the listed car doesn't match the window sticker etc, so I suspect some fuckery afoot.

Local place will do 35,900 on a blue RS2 with forged wheels, fully loaded basically. So either that or 33,500 on a base with forged wheels, but I need to fly to Alabama. Hmm...

Local car has the head gasket already replaced as well - i set up an appointment to drive it tomorrow. On another note my wife and I just at the NY auto show we fiddled around with the RS a bunch and it feels predicibly cheap - especially after we sat in every BMW/benz/Audi/etc. But the Brembos, 350hp, awd, and recaros make up for the plastics I think. Her favorite reasonably priced car of the show was the buick tourX wagon which was admittedly pretty sweet for 35k fully loaded, but auto only and would in no way be fun to drive.

Man was a local celebrity and they put a statue up of him after he died. They were drat good peanuts.
