I have so many issues with WM34 that it's keeping me up but I need to get to sleep for work in the morning but this dumpster fire of a grandest stage and that means I'm gonna sleep as lovely as the show was.

On the flipside, I was bitterly disappointed by Shinsuke/AJ. I dug the heel turn at the end but both guys are capable of so much more and I've personally been there live when they did have an absolutely incredible match against each other. This was the match I was most excited about seeing at Wrestlemania long, long, long before it was even announced as happening.

I think if AJ and Shinsuke had opened they would have blown the roof off the joint. This isn't to say they should have opened, it's to say that holy poo poo this event is too loving long. Kenny Omega could have descended from the heavens and put on a seven star match and I still would have spent most of that match looking at SA because that was like hour loving five I had been watching this thing.

At that point in the night you have to lean heavily on spectacle, like Braun Strowman abducting some child to be a belt pillow. Or Braun Strowman in general, really.

The cruiserweight match was good but there were better matches in the tournament leading up to it.

It was good, not the best of the tournament, and had the wrong winner. One of the better matches of the show

I know everyone here is a huge Elias fan and loves the "trolling" thing and I just don't like him/it at all... but I really would have liked Cena/Taker fine if they just hadn't done that whole "I'm a fan"/"he's here"/"psych, its Elias" tease. Just have Cena come out and call Taker afraid or something and then do the spooky stuff and Taker's retribution. And bonus, that would have opened up time for AJ/Nakamura and/or Charlotte/Asuka.

I suspect that's a minority opinion around these parts, though.

i don't understand the company anymore. i don't know what they want. i can't get excited for anything because nothing ever has a good resolution. Daniel Bryan wrestled and i barely cared. the concept of the WWE is still interesting to me on a basic level but i just don't think i can be invested in this any more. i just feel detached, like i'm in a relationship with someone i'm no longer attracted to but have no real reason to break up with them. i can't care about any of the individual wrestlers because i know they will accomplish nothing and will stay in the same role forever.

This is how I am feeling lately, even though I do not want to.

Like, it's not "the people I wanted to win didn't win" that gets to me, because whatever, that's part of the joy of wrestling. It's the constant feeling that not only are the things I'm emotionally invested in not paying off, but the WWE keeps asking fans to emotionally invest in things they have no intention of paying off. What's up with all these people feuding over the US title they've been engrossing you in for weeks? Doesn't matter; one of the Singhs interfere, Jinder wins. What's the deal with all of these different women's storylines heading into the battle royal, and for that matter, getting the crowd to lose its poo poo because Bayley wins a big match? Doesn't matter; Naomi spent the entire thing on the outside and wins at the last minute after basically not having a story for months. What's the payoff for weeks of programming about Braun's mystery tag team partner, and for that matter the literal entirety of Raw's tag team division? Braun and a 10 year-old. Asuka runs ragged over NXT for two years, comes to the main roster, easily defeats every single person she faces, wins the first women's Royal Rumble, the streak is the biggest deal in the division, everyone's excited for her? Have Charlotte win, by submission, with no setup, to rehab her after her feud with the fuckin' Riott Squad failed to set the world on fire.

I'm not even a Roman Reigns fan and I still feel jilted by the main event, because they've spent so much time on pushing Roman for literal years, and when the big moment came they punked him out like it was nothing. I'm not emotionally invested in Roman Reigns, but I am emotionally invested in the act of watching Raw and it makes all of that feel totally pointless.

None of which is new or anything. It's just stacking up on me. In no small part because Takeover shows how people under the same umbrella can do everything so right. Hell, even on the same card you had the Ronda tag match showing how the WWE can do everything right.

I genuinely can not imagine attending a 5-7 hour wrestling event. Like, add in getting there early, giving yourself some time to explore and take it in, and travel... I've gone to a lot of games and concerts and even some tournaments and festivals and I don't think there's anything I enjoy THAT much.

I only watched this because I was comfortably in my own home and walking around doing stuff.

I'm of two worlds.

On the one hand for the past 3-4 years they've been trying to make Roman The Guy, and it's been incredibly poo poo the entire time through no fault of his own. So I didn't want him winning tonight. On the other hand... they've Luger'd him. He's a joke now, he loving spent a month calling out Brock and got his rear end kicked, after every opportunity, after being put over Cena. Now loving what? At least if he won and the crowd kept turning on him you could turn him heel and play off that. But now? He's no top baby face and he sure as poo poo isn't gonna be a proper heel, he's a crybaby who lost now.

Stick a fork in him, he's done.

Not every loving belt has to be contested at Mania. And since women are now getting a real shot, you have to cut the fat (the first match, the Rusev match, one of the tag-team matches - even if those ended up being ok compared to the later ones) somewhere.

When Vader got arrested in Kuwait it was during a series of sold shows bankrolled by rich oil tycoons, they’ve done shows like this off and on for at least 20 years and the idea of “rich middle eastern royal/businessman vastly overspends on spectacle” isn’t exactly a new concept

Oh and I will say, even if it was silly, Braun choosing a child does wonders for him as a Face.

1. He can do this every week, making him give these 'moments' to a 'random' child in each city, that'll make him a megaface with the kids?
2. He's saying "I am so loving strong, that I can team with a literal child and still beat you, that is how confident I am."

During Wrestlemania 17, I got a phone call from my boss telling me I had been canned. Without notice, after 2 years with good evaluations, as collateral damage from some interpersonal poo poo between others. Being young and dumb(er) I struggled for the next decade, changing multiple jobs/careers all of which paid pittance in comparison, until I finally got into a trade with decent longevity and better pay.

Still a better outcome than WM34 :v:
