I can happen without water, just takes longer. This can be sped up if the UV light creates a weakness of the hull that allows for stray oxygen molecules to 'seep' out.

Does the first season have a ramp up?

I really loved the books but the show is just not grabbing me at all. I'm having a lot of trouble getting past SyFys production value that looks like it's going to turn into Cinemax soft porn at any second.

I'm sorry, I'm not trying to troll here but they really seemed to take the fun horror stuff out of the book and just turned it into a political drama?

Does it get better? I can usually deal with ramp ups.

He was looking out the hole into space that the creature left out of, not the hole in the ground that the creature left a blue ball in. That hole was the one the creature made when going for the reactor and they sealed it later once they had atmosphere in that room. The lights were blue because all the lights were blue in the first part of this episode.

I don't know what books you read, but I read some fantastic political drama, and that's what the TV show primarily is too.

The characters get more chemistry as time goes on if that's your issue. They start off way more antagonistic in the show and kind of grow into the family they are in the books. If you want creepy visceral horror, that's even less present in the show than it was in the books. Protomolecule is glowy blue stuff rather than weird flesh stuff.

I mean, the opening scene alone kind of gave me a bad feeling about the show compared to the books for the horror aspect. I just really loving hate the production value of everything and the acting is... not great which is weird considering there's some very good actors on the show.

Im also extremely bitter about what SyFy and Lev Grossman did to The Magicians and kind of feel like they're doing the same here.

I'm on episode 4 and a dude just got his head blown off which was kind of cool I guess.

Vomit zombies show up at the end of season 1, but that really hasn't come up much since. There was stuff with weaponized protomolecule in S2, but the show is more politics and characters.

Even the books weren't really horror, the impression I got was Peter F. Hamilton multi-POV space opera minus the GRRM-style, endlessly winding descriptions of feasts and food items constructionbots. There was very little in the way of horror.

We may get more of that this season, as the last episode ended with Holden going full Don Quixote after all of the major players now have PM, but :iiam:.

Edit: Expanse is more :bsg: than Alien.

But then one day, a third attempt, I just let it run through 4 episodes, not really paying attention while, I forgot, cleaning up my room, and there's a long scene in episode 4 that made me hit pause halfway through, rewatch it immediately while paying attention this time, and then I binged all of it starting on that day.

It seems like poor design for power armor to have a several seconds long gap before switching to backup batteries. You could say it switches off non-critical systems, but that means there's been some embarrassing moments of marines floating helplessly during a boarding action.

Regardless it's so good to have this show back. Glad to see Bobbie getting more power armor action even if it's still not as rad as it was in the book.

I justified that as the thing had been fried to hell, so along with the battery getting super drained it made sense to me that some of the systems might fail intermittently. That EVA trip on the outside of the ship was so goddamn intense, I knew she'd be okay but holy poo poo that scene pushed all my buttons.

Julie's racing ship is 10x cooler looking than anything I could've dreamed up, I love everything about the design and I think it's the coolest ship we've seen so far, and I like that it looking so rad inside and out totally fits the established universe and story since she had all of Mao's money to throw into the raddest ship she could think of, and since it's the rare "fly for pleasure" ship that's designed for only 2 people it doesn't have to have poo poo like weapons, big crew amenities, basically strap a rocket to some metal and make it all look cool as hell. I'm looking forward to seeing more of the inner details of it coming up.

My only nitpick at all with the episode is that I got teased by seeing just the start of how Bobbi's armor comes off, and I wanted to see that poo poo all come sliding off like an Iron Man suit dammit!

I kinda wish they had gone the book route with it. In those she doesn't take the armor off, she stands there and uses it to brace herself against the g-forces. No idea if that's remotely realistic but it did make the armor seem even more badass.

Maybe it would have looked silly on screen and that's why they changed it.

It's been a while but I think in the book the engineer guy from the ship doesn't exist, so Cotyar flies, Avasarala rides shotgun and Bobbie stands there being awesome. Agreed that they couldn't just dump the engineer guy though, wouldn't be a very good guy thing to do. :v:

Yeah as I recall she basically breaks the pilot's seat out of the ship and then pilots using the power armor as a crash couch, and I guess the armor is able to juice her up too? I don't recall the details since it's been awhile, but that sounds right to me. I don't remember Cotyar being on the ship with them at all, but then again I literally don't remember Cotyar at all so I may just have a blank space there, it's possible. All this minor book stuff really doesn't matter anyway, though with that said on the subject of the book...

The books also make the ship seem WAY more cramped than we saw on the show just in terms of actual open space in the ship, and I liked that they were able to do a stylish more open design but still make it 2 people max since you gotta be in a proper seat or you'll die pulling their G's, and they have to pull those G's to get away to safety.

It's a nice touch that Chrisjen was able to inspire the engineer to help them but also didn't leave him as a necessary sacrifice, which is what I was expecting especially when he was like "it'll take an hour" and with me expecting someone to be needed at the helm of the doomed ship. Her actress, as freakin usual, gave me the sense that she'd totally do that if she had to, but only if she had to and that she wanted him to be able to make it, and the same with her spy bodyguard. It's a nice contrast with Mao and the U.N. rear end in a top hat who will absolutely kill and abandon whoever they think they need to, including their own family.
