"Hi Everybody!"
The plot's actually not that hard to tweak into something fixable; As it stands, with Poe knowing what Hondo's plan is in advance, they just have to sit tight and they'll get out alive. Buuut there's no reason they can't still go with Poe's plan to try and get the Cruiser jumping to safety. Minimal risk, few people and resources potentially lost, and they might actually save the one capital-scale ship they have left. It's better than sitting on Salt-Hoth with barely any resources left, so give it a shot .

Given the circumstances they're in this isn't an unreasonable decision, imo. They unironically could and should've done it much sooner. They had other ships to evacuate people to before the big dumb chase sequence and they could've safely jumped away.

Okay, so that's one Imperial capital ship destroyed.

What about the day after? A month from then? Because a lack of a capital ship hurts for a lot longer than killing one among thousands will benefit.

I mean there's still other things wrong with it, like how the timeline is very slippery. Finn spends like, what, a single night on the casino planet? Plus the next morning? Rey is on the planet with Luke for quite a bit longer than that, and yet the chase scene doesn't seem to last longer than a day or two. Are we suddenly trying to add time dilation to explain that?

I think my main beef with TLJ is that I really enjoyed the parts with Rey on the ocean world, the stuff with Finn on the casino planet was interesting but felt like extended filler, the throne room/post FTL scenes on the big ship were cool, and the ending was fine. But the chase scene and opening bomber sequence just totally fell flat for me and really drags the first two-thirds of the movie down.

I mean, they're still in that same scenario the way the current plot is, they just also have no smaller ships now. What difference does it make?

This is true but "scrappy kids want to join the resistance" doesn't replace spaceships.

Anyway my bad, this is a dumb derail, I'll stop now.

It's the middle of the night, tomorrow there will be more news about CA and all it's horrors, and this will all be pretty much buried.

But I think it does mean more space ships. And it wasn't just those kids who know. The idea was to show how far this story spread. Which means a lot of people know.

They also had contacts they tried to call up who gave up and didn't answer. Presumably they will also be remoralized, and given what they were being called in for, probably have arms, ships and manpower.

Exactly, this was the point of the first scene of the film. Poe destroyed one capital ship at the cost of all their bombers, accomplishing nothing, and this was clearly shown and explained to be a mistake.

Well I was more hoping the discussion would be about Auralnauts in particular but I guess Last Jedi is a good distraction detail as well. Also I'm phone posting but there is a video of Rich Evans predicting Luke's entire motivation in TLJ that came out in November 2015 and he's pretty much dead on the money.

Moviebob also put up a video the other day about how pointless the Roseanne reboot is when shows like Bob's Burgers or King of the Hill already exist to show what life is like for average Americans who might have voted for Trump, since apparently Roseanne's reboot is specifically about her voting for Trump and her family trying to deal with it.

I don't know if I'll ever bother watching The Last Jedi. The Force Awakens felt too much like it was just the original Star Wars, but with better CGI, and I just don't actually like the Star Wars world enough to care about more stories there.

On the other hand, Solo: A Star Wars Story has Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian, so I might watch it just for that.

you fools are missing the real problem with The Last Jedi

There is no reason why it should matter if the capital ship was running out of fuel because in the vacuum of space there is no friction to slow inertia. The chase should have gone on forever.

Should have done it Expanse style where their need to outrun the enemy is dictated by how fast they can accelerate before running out of fuel, so the chase starts going faster and faster and faster until it's like the scene in Star Trek Into Darkness where they're trading shots while flying at Warp speed. Only good part of that movie IMO.

I'd recommend giving it a shot. There are three major plotlines. One is a waste of time. One is deliberately frustrating which makes it divisive. One involves Luke and it is loving tight because it involves taking a gigantic dump on the dogma of Star Wars in order for something new to grow.

Relativity means that the only thing that matters is how they accelerate relative to each other. Running out of fuel means you can't accelerate anymore. It's not going to lead you to "warp speed" or whatever. On the other hand, you're going to have to use up a lot of fuel to accelerate in the opposite direction to go back home, unless you're fortunate enough to run into a star system in such a way as to do some gravity assists, and maybe some atmospheric deceleration, if you know what you're doing.

I dunno how I feel about purple-haired captain. Like, I didn't dislike her or anything but I also didn't really find any reason to be attached to her. It feels like a weird character to give the most visually-impressive heroic sacrifice in the series. It's like they came up with the lightspeed scene first and then nobody could agree on who should be driving the ship

For the record though, the scenes between Rey and Kylo are some of the best material to come out of Star Wars

Honestly, don't bother. The biggest problem I have with the entire new trilogy is the utter feeling of pointlessness that permeates the entire thing. I thought Last Jedi was a huge improvement over Force Awakens, it even has the occational flashes of brilliance, but all in all, it didn't manages to shake off the shallowness that Force Awakens created by being so uninspired in its world building.

edit: Also, while it is true that we tend to talk about Star Wars a lot, I find it quite interesting how the option on Last Jedi seemed to have cooled considerably.

Web Developer for phelous.com dot com.
Been waiting for a lull in the CA traumadrama to post.

So a certain admin, FactsAreUseless, has decided to demod me. This was out of nowhere, and without any consultation with me, or with any other admin. The only reason I got is that I was being "too professional", and enforcing rules. The only way I can read this is that someone didn't like their probe, and complained to their admin friend. Just my feeling. (FYI: it wasn't anyone in this thread. Y'all are cool and I love you).

This, needless to say, hurts quite a bit. I've been wanting to participate more in the recent discussion, but I'm a bit heartbroken. Being perfectly honest, I don't know if I'll do any more than lurk. On the other hand, I'll sleep on that for the weekend. If I do go away, please be not-assholes to each other.

Any discussion I've had with other mods or admins seems to boil down to "no one but FAU seems to have decided this, so nothing we can do". So if you want any more information about what happened, or reinstatement, that's something you'll need to discuss with the admin of your choice.

Given that RDG basically only has 6 threads of note, and only 2 of them produce mod reports, I'm completely baffled as to how anyone can think too much time is spent on mod reports for a particular thread. It's-- literally just statistics.

Anyways, I'll try not to rant too much. Continue on the discussion.

My contribution (if it's my last): Diamanda Hagan just dropped a review of Chirpy 2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L6-CH750yqY If you don't know what Chripy is, Google her original review of it.

It's about a horse loving a bird. yup.

And FWIW, I just became a top-tier Patreon of hers, so sometime in the future there'll be a ep-by-ep TV series review of my choice, and a possible cameo.
