It turns out fat people that grew up in the 50’s and 60’s have no taste buds, and like to force gross mayo infested food on poor innocent kids.

I think the concept of a tuna melt is good, but old-rear end recipes leave poor goons with bad memories of them. Imagine a nice toasted bread, topped with a Mediterranean tuna mixed with a fresh aioli. Maybe a melty cheese like havarti.

price drop alert, Amazon has Polar herring in hot tomato sauce (it's only mildly spicy, not truly hot) 9 cans for $13.32 shipped. It's a hard flavor to find in stores. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004TDTZEG/ref=ox_sc_act_title_3?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&th=1

King Oscar sent me a red hat today. Wearing a red hat is going to feel weird in this climate -- "Make Sardines Great Again!" Between this, the gray T-shirt they sent me last week, and my red and black aprons, I can really sport the KO swag.

I need to up my game, I've only gotten a wood fork and sardine lid. Does KO sell branded items for those who can't write poetry?

# ? Apr 15, 2018 18:41 |

I just got a plastic coffee cup from them. The wood sardine fork is pretty dope, but the metal one is getting a nice patina on it, so it's looking quite dadly at the moment.

Hey fish dads. How does tuna in sunflower oil compare to sardines?
|
# ? Apr 15, 2018 19:56 |
|
I'm actually more upset by the sunflower oil than the tuna.
|
# ? Apr 15, 2018 19:58 |

The answer is simple: No. A) No bones, meaning you don't get to show off how surly of a fishmonger you are as you chomp through the dang spines. B) Tuna has lots of mercury and other icky icky things that only larger predatory fish get. The holy sardine never lives long or grows enough to become a bad health choice. C) Sunflower oil is a big No No. It's gonna taste weird compared to a divine olive oil 'dine
|
# ? Apr 15, 2018 20:31 |
|
Tuna’s also not sustainable. For a similar taste and texture try mackerel, it’s a better choice health wise and for the oceans. But yeah, in all these categories, it’s the holy dine that’s king

The wild planet mackerel is firm like tuna but with a better taste, imo. King Oscar mackerel is softer and has a different flavor. It's also in regular olive oil instead of extra virgin, so it's not as good for eating out of the can. Good for putting in stuff, though.
|
# ? Apr 15, 2018 21:08 |
|
If you really must eat pieces of a big fish, then King Oscar's mackerel in olive oil is great.
|
# ? Apr 15, 2018 21:29 |
|
Also, wild planet sardines have a firmer texture. They mixup really well with mustard and hot sauce for sandwiches. Not the same flavor as tuna but the texture is pretty similar, and delicious!

It wasn't real lemon, just some sort of lemon flavoring and it was disgusting and those poor little fish died for nothing Bardeh fucked around with this message at 14:50 on Apr 16, 2018 |

Made spinach, tomato, cucumber salad with Clover Leaf olive oil dines today. While the tin came with a good amount of dines, I felt I had to cut the olive oil so I used balsamic vinegar; really improved it.

oh yeah, they are definitely best with a little acid to cut the fat. Squeeze of lemon, dab of balsamic, something to lighten the richness. I ate junk food and drank beer all weekend, now I just want to eat fresh veggies with a little bit of fish and lemon until I feel better
