what are y'alls recommendations for the best and smokiest wood-smoked dines

best and smokiest wood smoked dines I've tried so far are Polar. Bonus, they come in a jar so you can eat just a couple fishes for a snack and save the rest for later, or go hog wild and eat all the dines for a meal

Hi, that’s a tuna melt and also one of the worst memories I have from my childhood.
It turns out fat people that grew up in the 50’s and 60’s have no taste buds, and like to force gross mayo infested food on poor innocent kids.

I think the concept of a tuna melt is good, but old-rear end recipes leave poor goons with bad memories of them. Imagine a nice toasted bread, topped with a Mediterranean tuna mixed with a fresh aioli. Maybe a melty cheese like havarti.

price drop alert, Amazon has Polar herring in hot tomato sauce (it's only mildly spicy, not truly hot) 9 cans for $13.32 shipped. It's a hard flavor to find in stores.

King Oscar sent me a red hat today. Wearing a red hat is going to feel weird in this climate -- "Make Sardines Great Again!"

Between this, the gray T-shirt they sent me last week, and my red and black aprons, I can really sport the KO swag.

I need to up my game, I've only gotten a wood fork and sardine lid. Does KO sell branded items for those who can't write poetry?

I just got a plastic coffee cup from them. The wood sardine fork is pretty dope, but the metal one is getting a nice patina on it, so it's looking quite dadly at the moment.

I'm actually more upset by the sunflower oil than the tuna.

The answer is simple: No.

A) No bones, meaning you don't get to show off how surly of a fishmonger you are as you chomp through the dang spines.

B) Tuna has lots of mercury and other icky icky things that only larger predatory fish get. The holy sardine never lives long or grows enough to become a bad health choice.

C) Sunflower oil is a big No No. It's gonna taste weird compared to a divine olive oil 'dine

Tuna’s also not sustainable. For a similar taste and texture try mackerel, it’s a better choice health wise and for the oceans. But yeah, in all these categories, it’s the holy dine that’s king :coolfish:

The wild planet mackerel is firm like tuna but with a better taste, imo. King Oscar mackerel is softer and has a different flavor. It's also in regular olive oil instead of extra virgin, so it's not as good for eating out of the can. Good for putting in stuff, though.

If you really must eat pieces of a big fish, then King Oscar's mackerel in olive oil is great.

bengy81

Also, wild planet sardines have a firmer texture. They mixup really well with mustard and hot sauce for sandwiches. Not the same flavor as tuna but the texture is pretty similar, and delicious!

Is Facebook the only way to get KO swag? I eat A LOT of KO dines and by golly i deserve at least an apron and a fork but I am not on the 'book.

I never use it but if there's ever any Twitter promos I guess I could try that

VVV My wife and kids already think my dine obsession is weird but yeah I may as well ask one of them

Let the Tuna stay in the oceans because there aren't many of them left. Tinned tuna is also just Not Good whereas tinned sardines are Very Good.

E: although i bought some cheapo sardines the other day that were in sunflower oil with a 'hint of lemon' and they were so loving nasty. It wasn't real lemon, just some sort of lemon flavoring and it was disgusting and those poor little fish died for nothing

My buddy gave me Alaska caught salmon he canned himself in the cannery he worked in at the time. Hand caught and salted, delicious over a piece of toast.

avocado and dines are one of my favorite combos with plenty of black pepper and usually a squeeze of lemon or lime. it's just yummy oily unctuousness

Made spinach, tomato, cucumber salad with Clover Leaf olive oil dines today. While the tin came with a good amount of dines, I felt I had to cut the olive oil so I used balsamic vinegar; really improved it.

oh yeah, they are definitely best with a little acid to cut the fat. Squeeze of lemon, dab of balsamic, something to lighten the richness.

I ate junk food and drank beer all weekend, now I just want to eat fresh veggies with a little bit of fish and lemon until I feel better
